At Fortis our focus has always been on breaking new ground. In 1990 we were the first cross-border enterprise in the European financial sector. AMEV, a large Dutch insurer and VSB, a Dutch bank combined operations were joined by AG Group, a major Belgian insurer. It’s common sense – a satisfied employee is a motivated employee. And motivated employees are essential to a company’s success: they are absent less frequently, stay with their employers longer and are more productive. So we at Fortis want to know how our people are doing – which is why we conduct an Employee Motivation Survey every year.
Our Employee Motivation Survey (EMS) gives us the feedback we need to constantly align our corporate strategy with employee needs. Our third annual EMS, in 2006, broke previous records, drawing a response rate of 70%, or almost 39,000 employees.
Our people proved to be considerably more satisfied in 2006 with almost all work-related topics, including cooperation with immediate colleagues, departmental customer focus and their job responsibilities. Their loyalty to Fortis is high and they are strongly involved with our dynamic business.
