Lehman Brothers

Company Snapshot

Lehman Brothers, an innovator in global finance, serves the financial
needs of corporations, governments and municipalities, institutional
clients, and high-net-worth individuals worldwide. Founded in 1850, Lehman Brothers maintains leadership positions in equity and fixed income sales, trading and research, investment banking, private equity and wealth and asset management services. The Firm is headquartered in New York, with regional headquarters in London and Tokyo and operates in a network of offices around the world.

  • The Firm is placing increasing emphasis on international revenues: geographical diversification is now a key driver of growth, with international revenues growing faster than the total - this helps reduce the volatility of the Firm's overall earnings. Lehman Brothers' non-US revenue was up 24% from a year earlier, exceeding the Firm's overall increase of 8.5%.
  • Lehman Brothers achieved a record performance in the first three quarters of 2006 with net income at $3.0bn - and beat last year's record third quarter on all counts, including net revenues, net income and EPS - first 9 months of 2006 were the Firm's best ever in Europe.
  • Lehman Brothers has now achieved critical mass in Europe. Headcount has increased from 3,278 in 2003 to 4,307 in 2005, and more than 5,200 to date.
  • The Firm specialises in pioneering and innovative transactions. It has been involved in all the most significant and complex M&A deals in Europe over the past year, advised on some of the region's leading IPOs, and continues to break new ground in structuring transactions.
  • Lehman Brothers has been the number one trader by volume on the London Stock Exchange for the past 14 months. With a state of the art equity trading platform, Lehman Brothers was the first investment bank to have achieved more than 2 million trades in a month in June and July on the LSE, and a top trader for FTSE 100 stocks. Lehman Brothers is also ranked 1st by volume trades on the CAC 40, Ibex 35, Milan 30, Amsterdam 25, Brussels 20 and OMX in Sweden.
  • Ranked number 1 for overall equity derivatives quality for Europe by Greenwich Associates.
  • LBAM Europe: liquidity funds have passed the $7bn AUM mark since launching earlier this year with a new Merchant Banking fund being launched a year ahead of schedule. Also launched 12 alpha funds this year across varying asset classes.
  • Globally AUMs have just passed the $200bn mark - a significant milestone.
  • Lehman Brothers is a clear market leader in European Mortgage Securitisation and has a growing mortgage origination business throughout Europe.
