Derivatives – Sales Marketing
In the financial world, a derivatives market deals with instruments/options derived from assets. As a trading professional, you can work in one of the following domains – equity derivatives, debt/interest rate derivatives, foreign exchange, physical commodities and option contracts. The derivatives may be traded either on an exchange, or, over the counter, in a dealer market.
A sales and marketing professional in derivatives is responsible for bringing new clients to the firm. As a sales professional, you can work either in retail sales or institutional sales. In retail sales, investors place trades to gain capital. Since the burnout rate is very high, the aim, here, is to be on the lookout for new clients. In institutional sales, the aim is to hedge a position. This means that acquiring new business may be slightly difficult, which is where the key sales traits are quite useful.
While a sales acumen is quite important, a CISI approved certification is also quite helpful to understand the basics of the market.
