Business Risk Lead – APAC

This position is part of The International Business Development Group (IBDG), whose primary function is to support the International Advisory Services division of Franklin Templeton Investments.

The primary role within IBDG will be to support/manage projects and efforts that embed a compliance culture into the daily activities of the International Advisory Services (IAS) Sales offices located in APAC, consistent with the corporate values and priorities of the Franklin Templeton organization. The individual will support the Manager to ensure that, within the APAC region, the policies and procedures, risk management, business compliance programs and AML function for international separate accounts are sufficient, and will ensure that all related projects and initiatives are brought to successful completion. Individual will act with Manager as regional advocate (proxy) to work on related global initiatives, with a particular focus on supporting initiatives of relevance to international institutional business. 

This role can be based either in Singapore, Mumbai or Poznan.


APAC Sales & Marketing Compliance

  • Assist in the Management of regulatory or corporate policy changes that impact APAC Sales and/or Marketing. Individual will work in conjunction with Manager to represent the business stakeholders and work with Legal/Compliance to determine impacts, develop and implement actions for regulatory changes and internal policy changes affecting Sales and Marketing activities. 
  • Support training programs with Manager and Global Compliance as necessary for APAC Sales and Marketing. 
  • Policy and Procedures: Create/Maintain global and local procedures for IAS Sales and Marketing activities. Maintain IAS global P&P SharePoint site.
  • Manage projects to maintain or establish adequate controls for business activities. Work with IAS Management, Legal, and Compliance to support and/or lead projects that are regulatory, process improvement, or policy driven.

Support Global Risk Management Framework

  • Support APAC’s Risk Management Committee by creating quarterly Committee meeting materials and help to identify and document key risks and mitigation plans to prevent financial or reputational impacts across the functional business units represented on the committee. Assist with relevant committee communication.
  • IAS Risk Management: Support Manager by helping identify areas of business risk throughout APAC and manage/coordinate projects in order to mitigate risks.  Recommend/implement process enhancements to improve controls for sales and marketing business activities.
  • Coordinate annual Risk Self-Assessment Process for Asia, work with other regional colleagues to compile into IAS risk log, and support submission to Global Enterprise Risk Forum.

Build / Maintain Internal Relationships to provide value-added business support

  • Establish relationships with APAC IAS staff and management in order to begin providing value-added support, becoming a reliable resource for IAS staff at all levels, and developing the ability to represent the APAC Sales and Marketing perspective.
  • Build partnerships across levels and functions, primarily Compliance and Legal, to gain from their perspective and cultivate communication. Partner with others inside and outside IAS to achieve common goals and foster an environment of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Assist with internal communications across APAC and global IAS.

Support International Institutional Business Projects / Initiatives

  • Provide project management support to the annual Internal Controls Review process, including the preparation and distribution of communications to a wide internal audience, conducting weekly project calls with external auditor, reviewing project documentation and problem solving as required.
  • Support Manager in transitioning the AML function for international separate accounts into IBDG, building it out as a reliable resource for the business and identifying process efficiencies.
  • Assist with support of the running of the Global Institutional Client Communication and other institutional support initiatives.


  • At least 5 years of working experience ideally in a similar capacity. Sales and/or marketing experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably with in Business, Economics, Finance or Marketing similar discipline.
  • Previous experience in financial services with solid experience in a project management capacity desired. 
  • Solid knowledge of both the industry and the regulatory compliance environment across countries in APAC.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with multiple cultures and business backgrounds.
  • Must be a self-starter and comfortable to be proactive in identifying areas of weakness or need within the business, with an eye to then implementing measures to find solutions to the problems identified.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Work effectively independently and in a “virtual” team setting whereby team members and management are spread across the globe, mostly communicating via telephone, email etc.
  • Willing to attend calls / meetings outside of normal working hours (as required).
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, PDF Writer, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
