Our Team

We are seeing an increasing number of opportunities coming up with our Defence and Security clients and need more talented people to join our teams working there. These organisations are undergoing huge change to adapt to the threats of the 21stcentury and are looking for help across the full spectrum of their business.

As a member of our growing team, you could be working to help our clients deliver highly complex projects/programmes that have a direct impact on making the UK safer.

About The Role

No two client projects are likely to be the same. A lot of our work involves helping client's effect business transformation although we also support on a variety of other initiatives such as: operating model design, cost optimisation and delivery of large IT Programmes.

We would expect candidates to be able to demonstrate the typical P3M skillset: project/portfolio/programme management, risk and issue management, change management planning, PMO, change impact assessment/change planning and, stakeholder management and engagement.

You can expect to spend most of your time working with mixed EY and client teams based at our client's offices.

In addition, we encourage our people to engage in broader practice development activities such as:

You will have responsibility for:

  • Managing and leading project teams or workstreams as part of larger projects
  • Being responsible for high quality delivery on a client assignment
  • Demonstrating knowledge and experience in one or more market areas and technical skills
  • Building long term trusted advisor relationships with our clients
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities for new business
  • Aiding proposals and bid teams
  • Assisting in developing EY solutions and supporting tools and methods
  • Liaising with service line teams, account teams and functional specialists

Role Requirements

To be successful in these roles, you will be required to demonstrate a number of the following skills and experience:

Typical Industry Experience:

  • Previous experiencing working with UK Government agencies and organisations would be beneficial
  • Experience in managing small to medium sized teams as part of a blended effort working alongside other organisations
  • Experience of project management and/or managing a PMO in the context of large scale projects and programmes
  • Experience of working as part of Business Change transformation projects and/or programmes
  • Experience developing a 'case for change', iterating this and pitching to senior stakeholders
  • Previous work in managing IT delivery projects would be beneficial but not essential

Profile and Skills:

  • Ambition to develop a career within EY specialising within the Defence and Security sector
  • Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable working with a diverse range of personalities across clients and partner organisations
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders and manage cross functional projects
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholder communities with varying levels of experience
  • Intellectual strength / flexibility to rapidly understand complex problems and rationalise these into a workable solution which can then be delivered
  • Experience of developing propositions that are current and relevant to our clients
  • Ability to develop and deliver high quality output against stated project objectives and meet tight deadlines
  • High level of drive, commitment to achieving solutions, and ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to develop impactful written presentations and participate effectively in meetings with senior client staff
  • Team player and leader who openly supports, encourages and shares knowledge with colleagues
  • Ability to work under limited supervision ('self-starter') in unstructured environments


  • Project management certification is preferred (PMI/CAPM or PMP, PRINCE2)
  • Programme management certification is desirable (MSP or similar)
