Position Overview:

BlackRock has been managing LDI mandates for over 20 years in the EMEA region. Since taking-on our first mandates in 1995, the business has grown such that Client Solutions now manage over 140 LDI mandates in the region comprising £140bn AUM. Client Solutions resources focused on the provision of LDI services fall into three areas:

  • Client Strategy and Design - This team is responsible for the design, development and support of solutions to institutional investors, such as pension plans, insurance companies, 3rd party distributors and other investors.
  • Client Fulfilment Team - This team is responsible for coordinating the team's mandate change and service excellence efforts.
  • LDI and Synthetic Portfolio Management - This team is responsible for trade construction, implementation and on-going mandate and risk management of Client Solutions portfolios delivering the bottom-up product and market knowledge and execution expertise.

Client Solutions is seeking an individual to join the Client Strategy and Design team at Vice President level to focus on delivering liability-driven investment solutions. The individual will be responsible for working with both existing and prospective clients in the design and implementation of their LDI strategies. In particular, the individual will be responsible for (i) exploring and understanding the client's investment objectives and aspirations, (ii) designing potential solutions using BlackRock's analytical toolset and market views and (iii) reporting/presenting the results back to clients. Once the target strategy is agreed the individual will help facilitate the implementation of the investment strategy as well as providing ongoing technical client support for the mandate. During all parts of the process the individual will work closely internal stakeholders, in particular the LDI and Synthetic Portfolio Management team and Client Fulfillment Team within Client Solutions.

The candidate should demonstrate good understanding of risk management / hedging concepts and their application. They will also have a good knowledge of the UK and or European pension fund market and experience of explaining complex concepts to third parties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engaging with existing and prospective clients to identify the investment challenges they face and to understand their goals and objectives
  • Must have previous experience in advising institutional investors on asset allocation strategies and portfolio construction
  • Present credible, innovative, investment and risk management solutions that meet client requirements
  • Previous experience in designing and implementing liability-driven investment and synthetic investment strategies is critical
  • Day-to-day client engagement for specific mandates
  • Must have previous experience in preparing and presenting quarterly reports to Institutional Clients
  • Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the full suite of solutions offered by Client Solutions, and the products managed by other investment areas within BlackRock
  • Prior experience in maintaining and developing knowledge of the broader regulatory framework and landscape that impacts Institutional Clients and the trading of derivatives is essential
  • Must be capable of contributing to new product design, as well as proactive involvement in the enhancement of the existing product offerings
  • Strong relationships with the Institutional Client Group and the Global Consultant Relations teams who are responsible for managing and developing BlackRock's client and consulting relationships;
  • Resolving client requests and preparing presentations for internal and external audiences;
  • Leveraging the knowledge of and develop strong relationships with product experts within BlackRock to create superior investment solutions
Professional requirements:

  • Degree or higher level qualification preferably in a quantitative subject
  • Previous experience with Aladdin advantageous
  • Demonstrated record of academic achievement and leadership
  • Must hold the FIA or CFA qualifications
  • Relevant experience in an asset management, investment banking or investment consulting environment critical
  • Excellent communication skills in writing and speech; capable of adapting style of communication to the audience
  • Ability to present and articulate complex concepts simply
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong level of self-motivation, ownership and initiative
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong team player
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint essential; other financial and data packages an advantage
  • European languages such as German and Dutch would be advantageous
