This is a Middle Office role within the Investment Bank providing first-line support for the Rates trading business and acting as a key point of contact for downstream groups.
The focus of the group is one of control. There is a strong operational discipline towards the management of the transaction cycle across the business and a great deal of effort is necessary to ensure tight controls.
The MO team consists of eight people who support 9 traders across two trading desks. The book runners are responsible for trade capture, daily PnL/risk report generation/substantiation, trade life cycle management and all related settlement and confirmation queries. The desks supported are the EMEA IR Options and EMEA Inflation trading desks. The products traded by these desks include Interest Rate Options, Interest rate cap / floors, Bermudan callable swaps, CMS swaps, Binaries, Inflation Swaps, Inflation Asset swaps and Inflation Cap/Floors. Vanilla hedging products include all types of IR Swaps and Futures / Futures Options contracts.
Middle Office has significant interaction with a variety of business partners in addition to trading such as QR, Technology, Finance, Market Risk, Settlements, Drafting to name a few.
Key roles and responsibilities:
Accurate capture of the business’ transactions in the RM system.
Daily P&L/Risk production/substantiation.
Monitor and manage trade events throughout the lifecycle of the transactions.
Primary point of contact for trader queries.
Liaising with drafting and settlements to resolve breaks.
Skills & Requirements:
We are looking for candidates who display drive and enthusiasm, who are highly numerate, work well as part of a team and have strong communication skills. Some specific skills that we would be looking for the candidate to possess are as follows:
PnL – experience and understanding of trading PnL and its attribution.
Product knowledge – understanding of the main interest rate products.
Understanding of risk types – Market (positions), operational, settlement, credit, legal and reputational
Regulatory Knowledge – understanding of current regulatory environment from US, UK and EU regulators
Systems skill – Risk management and reporting systems, straight through processing, excel (VB)
Problem solving – Developing and implementing solutions to often complex issues
Control –Understanding and implementing the control framework to mitigate risk through the transaction lifecycle
Networking and the bank-wide perspective – Understanding the needs of other groups and the importance of relationship building through extensive interaction.
