Data Privacy & Business Continuity Governance Officer :

The Data Privacy & Business Continuity position shall provide coordination of deliverables across the SSGA EMEA offices.  This candidate will report to the SSGA Business Continuity Manager in London.

This position will assist in the overall coordination of business unit compliance across EMEA offices to SSGA’s Program and to State Street’s Enterprise-wide Data Privacy Program and Global Continuity Services Program. 

Under the direction of the Global Head of Business Continuity and the local EMEA Business Continuity Manager, the primary responsibility will be to partner with SSGA business areas to improve and/or develop and implement policies and procedures for an effective Data Privacy & Business Continuity program;  ensure documentation of processes are in place and are accurate. The individual shall liaise with the Data Privacy Office (DPO), Regulatory Regulatory, Industry, and Government Affairs (RIGA) group to ensure all changes to the GDPR are captured and implemented across the EMEA regional business units. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Privacy:



  • Designs and develops policies and procedures of the organizations privacy program in accordance with security laws, corporate risk controls and regulatory requirements


  • Increase overall awareness via effective communications and learning modules based on data privacy controls across all global offices


  • Participates in modification and execution of existing policies that may affect immediate operations and may have company impact


  • Maintains project plan for all identified tasks and deliverables and provides regular status updates to Steering Committee


  • Manages compliance to State Street Data Privacy Program and Control Risks


  • Identifies risks to business by reporting status of each business line in manner appropriate for executive assessment and understanding


  • Increase transparency of overall program and effectiveness


  • Partners with business areas to ensure that proper documentation and approvals are obtained involving cross border data transfers, filings are completed as necessary with Data Privacy Authorities, as well as other required information


  • Ensure annual certification and business unit checklists are completed and accounted for across SSGA

Business Continuity:



  • Provides assistance (backup or primary) for local, regional and/or global Incident Management activities that involve liaising with business for impact, root cause, strategy implementation (e.g. manual workaround, alternate transportation, etc.), including facilitation with Incident Management personnel as necessary


  • Assists in coordination of business unit test activities, including validation of strategies, testing of business functions and applications while using required templates


  • Works effectively with respective business unit to ensure effective understanding of plans/recovery strategies and provides assistance as needed in the coordination and completion of the Business Impact Analysis and Continuity Plans


  • Provides assistance as directed by the Business Continuity Director and/or Manager to ensure increased awareness during building evacuation and emergency situations


  • Assists in risk identification via executive assessment reports by business area by compliance and/or recoverability



Required Skill sets



  • Preferred experience working with global privacy and compliance standards, data protection laws and regulations, and privacy framework


  • Demonstrated ability to build partnering relationships across the company at all levels be persuasive, good listener and assimilator of ideas and perspectives


  • Preferred understanding of  Investment Management and/or  Asset Management  organization


  • Strong project planning and management experience


  • Proven ability to establish and manage “dotted-line” business relationships to deliver agreed outcomes/deliverables


  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel across the organization


  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and appropriately based on audience with excellent facilitation and customer service skills
