We are currently seeking a Global Derivatives Lawyer based in London to join the WUBS legal team and to support the global WUBS business, with particular focus on the derivatives business of the WUBS segment. This exciting opportunity is available to individuals seeking an in-house role at a large public financial services company which involves the application of multiple legal, leadership and business acumen skills.
You will report directly to the global head of the WUBS legal department. In this position, and as a key member of the WUBS legal team, you will provide general legal support to the WUBS stakeholders in multiple jurisdictions, including support of WUBS markets derivative compliance department and the business. The position will include a significant focus on the area of derivative regulation as it applies to OTC derivatives in multiple jurisdictions but will also include legal support with respect to other legal operations and areas of the business, including for example trade finance, FinTech and payment services
Key areas of the role
In coordination with local external counsel, researching and monitoring changes to applicable laws and regulatory requirements and advising on implementation of resulting changes to the regulatory environment.
Advising on local regulatory requirements including principally those relating to payments and money transmission, foreign exchange spot and derivative contracts, trade finance and consumer protection laws.
Providing general legal support to the head of the legal department and internal clients with respect to corporate commercial matters, including to the compliance department
Advising on various facets of customer services including design and implementation of new systems, products and services, and agreements
Reviewing and advising on marketing and other external publications This role will involve a moderate amount of travel (10-30%)
Skills and experience
LL.B (or Juris Doctor) degree from an accredited school of law.
Current practicing member of at least one bar association. Relevant experience in an international law firm or in-house legal department of a multi-national corporation (preferably engaged in the provision and/or regulation of financial services)
Familiarity with regulations governing FX derivatives (preferably FX OTC derivatives), payments and foreign exchange.
Experience with EMIR, MiFID, and Dodd Frank regulations pertaining to derivatives. Experience with the regulations in other jurisdictions pertaining to OTC derivatives would be considered an asset. Familiarity or experience with payment services regulations and trade finance regulations would be considered an asset. Experience with advising on or assisting with the implementation of a capital markets compliance program would be considered beneficial.
Experience in dealing directly with business clients at all levels, both inside and outside of the organization coupled with solid experience in contract review, drafting and negotiation. Ability to provide legal advice which is business-focused, practical, timely and strategic and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. You will have confidence, ability to exercise independent, sound judgment and to function with minimal supervision. Ability to work independently as well as part of a broader team.
