As part of Global Risk, Regulatory Compliance ensures adherence to applicable regulations and standards by setting the policies which cover HSBC’s regulatory requirements, and mitigate conduct and reputational risk issues. The team strives to remain ahead of the regulatory change agenda and ensures the business understands the implications and is prepared for change. It monitors how the Global Businesses and Functions manage their responsibilities with regard to complying with the regulations and helps resolve compliance deficiencies.

The key purpose of the Risk Response role is to provide risk response capability to address emerging and ad-hoc high risk events, global thematic risk priorities and support regional teams by helping complete RCMAT work in order to meet internal and regulatory expectations.  The role holder will be expected to lead or be part of a small team in carrying out independent RCMAT activities in order to provide reasonable assurance that the business is operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, codes and HSBC Group Standards within RC.

In this role, you will:
• Utilise SME knowledge in the RCMAT risk environment by providing rapid "hands on" risk response to significant emerging risks to identify root cause, potential impact and advise on next steps.
• Travel internationally to conduct thematic first line reviews where local Regulatory Compliance resource is unavailable or stretched too thinly to respond appropriately (in which case a collaborative approach is to be adopted).
• Conduct controls effectiveness testing.
• Provide a flexible service that can be relied upon to deliver results, often under pressure, in a short time periods.

To be successful in the role, it is likely that you should meet the following requirements:
• Good working knowledge of Regulatory Compliance requirements and risk-based monitoring techniques;
• Previous audit experience or similar
• Varied business and regulatory experience, the latter acquired via Compliance roles and/ or time with a regulator or consultancy;
• Excellent planning, prioritisation and documentation skills are essential;
• Strong inter-personal skills and excellent communication for dealing with senior executives;
• A proven track record of quickly acquiring new skills and expertise;
• Lateral, creative thinker with good problem solving and analytical skills;

Language skills would be beneficial but are not a requirement.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE SOME TRAVEL (CIRCA 30%).
