BlackRock's US Wealth Advisory Business ("USWA") manages the firm's relationships with US retail investors and financial advisors. Representing a full suite of strategies - from iShares ETFs and mutual funds to SMAs and sub-advisory relationships - USWA's mandate is to deliver "One BlackRock" to retail.

Role Description:

Reporting to BlackRock's global CMO and the global CMO for iShares, the US CMO will be responsible for leading Blackrock's Retail marketing efforts in the US. In the US, our retail business includes all of BlackRock's client offerings including mutual funds, Alternatives, iShares Exchange Traded Funds and our growing range of portfolio construction and risk services. The senior-level executive will lead a team of 75 marketing professionals and partner with the Head of our US business and US business leaders to develop and execute strategic positioning, segment-specific distribution plans, marketing campaigns and a rich data-driven marketing, technology and web platform to attract, grow and service clients. The remit is across all marketing disciplines from brand and advertising to direct and technology-enabled, data-driven marketing. This individual would have oversight responsibility for a marketing budget of over $100M a year in total spend.

Key Responsibilities:

The finalist candidate will be a senior marketing executive who is a strategic thinker and has the ability to successfully operate as a partner to the US business. The candidate must be a strong leader who possesses the ability to think strategically, be detail-oriented and drive the execution of complex distribution plans.

The successful candidate will be experienced and passionate about data-driven marketing and excellence in client segmentation and data management. The successful candidate must also have demonstrated capability to build brand propositions and campaigns that communicate clearly and emotionally and drive adoption and loyalty. Our business focuses primarily on successful financial intermediaries today but we are looking to scale our distribution to a broader set of financial advisors and, over the next five years, to more effectively reach personal investors.

The successful candidate must be able to manage a large, diverse team and develop talent that can execute both within their direct reports and through central shared marketing organization. The candidate must partner exceptionally well across teams and functional areas to help grow our overall business and execute distribution campaigns.

Qualifications:

  • Prior leadership of a broad marketing team within a large and matrixed organization, preferably within the financial services sector.
  • Demonstrated success at building a data-driven marketing program, clearly defining marketing tactics and priorities to achieve quantifiable results within the goals and objectives of a business strategy.
  • Successful commercial execution at scale (i.e., driving many billions in annual new AUM, delivering large, complex marketing programs to hundreds of thousands of FAs or millions of retail consumers)
  • Built communications to both 'high end' retail/institutional as well as 'mass affluent' or 'average Financial Advisor' constituencies
  • Understanding of asset management and financial services products and how they combine in a portfolio to meet consumer's financial plans/objectives

This individual can be based in either our New York or San Francisco office and will involve extensive travel between both locations.
