The Managing Director, Global Assurance leads and directs the Global Assurance Department. This individual serves the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and senior management as a source of independent and objective assurance advice and leadership. The Assurance function is responsible for providing services designed to add value and improve CME Group’s operations. As the leader of this Department, the Managing Director of Global Assurance will also provide risk oversight, conduct analysis to understand trends, devise early warning systems for proactive risk management, help improve management decision making, and in conjunction with the Enterprise Risk Management function, continually improve CME Group’s global risk profile.
Assist the Audit Committee in the discharge of its responsibilities and requirements. Communicate with the Audit Committee, the General Counsel, the Chief Compliance Officer and head of Enterprise Risk Management regarding the internal audit function, including the departmental needs, priorities for audit coverage, and short- and long-range internal audit plans. Coordinate fulfillment of the requirements for the Audit Committee meetings as necessary.
Ensure audit work conforms to the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing as promulgated by The Institute of Internal Auditors.Ensure that each audit is effectively planned, coordinated and reported by, among other things, reviewing audit reports and applicable supporting workpapers prior to formal release.Ensure that the department procedures, records, decisions, and other activities support the department's independence and objectivity.
Perform an annual risk assessment for Global Assurance.Develop/execute annual audit plan based on assessment of business/financial risk, which provides adequate coverage of significant exposure areas (including IT and Cyber Security) and satisfies Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404, SOC, SOC 2 and other applicable regulatory and other requirements. Develop/execute follow-up audits to ensure implementation of management’s remedial actions and perform duties necessary to achieve the internal audit objectives/ scope.
Organize, manage and direct the Global Assurance department and the work of all Global Assurance staff. Design, establish, & maintain organizational structure/ staffing to effectively accomplish goals and objectives, including oversight of employees, consultants, and third party resources both onshore and offshore. Recruit, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate staff as demonstrated through budget management, performance management and resource allocation.
Report on a periodic basis both verbally and in writing to applicable regulators in the US, UK and other jurisdictions as appropriate.
Conduct periodic fraud risk assessment in consideration of COSO 2013 framework and principles.
Serve on the Compliance and Ethics Team, Disclosure Team and SOX Team and complete duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems.
Proven leadership of cross functional teams including strategy, management, and direction for business requirements.
Minimum of 15 years of experience of public or internal audit experience; preferred leadership role of internal audit function.
Experience with and deep exposure within a regulated industry, preferably within financial services with derivatives experiences a strong plus.
Demonstrable experience in liaising directly with regulatory bodies in different geographical regions.
Experience in developing and enhancing a global Audit and Assurance capability.
Impeccable writing skills for technical, management, and executive audiences.
Demonstrable communication capabilities including oral presentation and ability to present in front of executive leadership.
Demonstrable experience advising boards and senior leadership teams on the status of risk management and controls, and on how to improve them. Experience in recruiting, development, metrics, performance management, compensation, organization and teaming within the Assurance areas.
