Your Opportunity
This is a newly created Financial Controller position within a growing privately owned business entering an exciting phase of expansion.
This role will suit you if still enjoy reviewing a set of accounts, understanding the detail and ensuring the numbers are right. But where you'll really add value is what you do once the reporting is complete.
You're already someone who enjoys technical accounting but you're equally motivated by influencing decisions, improving performance and becoming a genuine commercial partner to the business.
The finance function is already supported by an outsourced accounting provider, and that isn't changing.
Instead, your role is to ensure the quality and integrity of the financial information, produce reporting that genuinely supports decision making and become a trusted business partner to the leadership team.
One comment from the Directors summed up the brief perfectly, "We want world-class reporting."
This is a mix of office based and significant on-site exposure (all within Brisbane) across this multi-site business where you will be expected to manage your time.
What You'll Do:
You'll review the end-to-end finance function while maintaining ownership of the quality, accuracy and integrity of the numbers.
Beyond that, you'll produce reporting that helps leaders understand performance, identify opportunities and make informed commercial decisions.
You'll spend time in the business, working alongside operational leaders to understand what drives profitability, challenge assumptions and provide meaningful financial insight.
- Deliver insightful management reporting that supports strategic decision making.
- Analyse margins, profitability, cash flow, capital investment and operational performance.
- Partner closely with operational leaders to improve business performance.
- Review month-end reporting and the work completed by the outsourced finance provider.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting, systems and financial processes.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and commercial analysis across a growing multi-site business.
- Build reporting that leaders genuinely rely on rather than simply producing information for month-end.
Who You Are:
This role is aimed at an up-and-coming Financial Controller or commercially minded Finance Manager who enjoys partnering with the business as much as they enjoy producing accurate financial information.
You'll already have strong commercial accounting experience and won't have lost sight of your technical foundations. You'll be comfortable reviewing month-end processes, understanding the detail and ensuring the integrity of the financial results before turning your attention to analysis and commercial decision making.
Just as importantly, you'll be an exceptional communicator. You'll enjoy building relationships, asking questions, influencing decisions and earning credibility with operational leaders. Your ability to communicate will be every bit as important as your technical accounting capability.
- CA or CPA qualification.
- Strong commercial accounting experience within a multi-site or fast-paced business.
- Excellent financial reporting and analytical skills.
- The ability to turn financial information into commercial recommendations.
- Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the maturity to work autonomously.
Interview Process:
We're moving quickly with this. First stage will be on Thursday 6th August in RH offices with final stage the following week.
