Linux Systems Administrator

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for deploying the release of new technologies as well as the design, installation, configuration, vulnerability remediation, maintenance, patching and system integration testing of operating systems, related utilities and hardware.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs, maintains and upgrades internal computer hardware and software systems used for designing and developing company products.
  • Implements systems enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system.
  • Troubleshoots server, software and hardware issues.
  • Assists with recommending, scheduling and implementing system hardware and/or software upgrades or repairs.
  • When appropriate, join the on-call roster to support applications that are hosted on the infrastructure.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Mandatory:
  • Demonstrated skills in RedHat Linux including network configuration, storage and capacity
  • Experience with Windows Server technologies (2008, 2012)
  • Demonstrated network skills including F5 technologies, TCP
  • Experience with web containers such as WebSphere or JBoss.
  • Skill in software installation and maintenance
  • Skill to effectively analyse and solve problems
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, clients and public

Desirable:
  • Exposure to Puppet technologies including module factoring and source management
  • Splunk administration and integration
  • Administrative knowledge in VMware virtualisation
  • Knowledge of multiple operating systems and related utilities and hardware
  • Knowledge of storage management
  • Knowledge of network and system monitoring and tools
  • Knowledge of automation products
  • Knowledge of technical writing principles and practices
