Mid-market special situations investing opportunity, covering corporate and property transactions. The investment mandate utilises the whole capital stack to gain low to mid teen returns.
  • Growing team of high-calibre, special situations investors
  • Entrepreneurial and opportunistic investment environment
  • Coverage across Corporate and Property transactions

Our client is a growing, mid-market, special situations fund operating across Australia from a Sydney-based office. We are seeking to appoint a new Investment Analyst within the Opportunistic Credit strategy. This headcount has become available due to growth and strong performance across the fund. The business utilises the whole capital stack to provide low, double-digit returns to investors. Senior secured loans, mezzanine and preferred equity make up the structures of deals. The fund can invest in venture-like opportunities but is commonly targeting deals in the mid-market range – this is across both corporate and property. The investment team is currently a team of three very high-calibre professionals and this role is to bolster the current execution capabilities.

We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in opportunistic credit investing and an understanding of the fundamental differences between this investment strategy versus other alternative avenues. Candidates should come with an inquisitive mindset and be able to clearly articulate the motivation for moving towards an investment analyst opportunity like this one.

It is most likely candidates will come from investment banking roles in either leveraged finance or M&A teams; this may be from boutique advisors or bulge bracket. We will also consider candidates from big four accounting firms and domestic bank debt / corporate finance functions. We are seeking critical thinkers who are high achievers, highlighted through strong academic performance. The role will be focused on execution at the outset, so familiarity with complex financial models as well as ability to succinctly present ideas to an Investment Committee will be necessary. It is most likely the candidate will have 2 -3 years’ experience post university study, but we will also consider candidates at the one-year mark who can step up into the role.

If you are looking to move into a rapidly growing part of the private markets investing space and you value nimble and entrepreneurial environments, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
