About the Role

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager for Credit Income, this role will primarily focus on the origination and execution of direct lending investment opportunities to Australian borrowers.

The successful candidate would be responsible for:

  • Developing strong relationships with banks, advisers and sponsors to ensure First State Super is able to identify, source and prioritise target funds, mandates, co-investments and direct lending opportunities that are in line with the approved Credit Income investment strategy;
  • Conducting and coordinating investment and operational due diligence on those target investments (or other potential deals in sectors such as Infrastructure and Property);
  • Assisting in the portfolio management of the existing First State Super and StatePlus credit portfolios, including reviewing and reporting on relevant investment exposures; and
  • Ongoing management, monitoring and reporting on the performance of the assets of the fund.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Generating deal flow through the liaison with internal and external counterparties
  • Creating a focus list of investments consistent with the Credit Income investment strategy and portfolio construction guidelines
  • Conducting and coordinating the investment due diligence on the agreed focus list of investments
  • Assisting in the management of the existing portfolios and investments, primarily across the non-traditional/alternative spectrum
  • Contributing to Investment team activities and driving continual improvement initiatives to enable the team to deliver its services in the simplest, most efficient and member-focussed way

About You

You will be a proactive, organised and confident individual with strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to build trusted relationships, you can multi-task & prioritise work items to maximise your time whilst also delivering an exceptional experience to stakeholders. 

You will have at least 8 years’ industry experience with a background in credit analysis, potentially with a major bank, and  ideally across multiple sectors.  Your experience in investing will be both from both a transactional and financial modeling perspective.  You will also have a solid network of domestic contacts.

It is also desirable (but not required) that you have a strong knowledge of capital markets and funds management across the range of traditional and alternative investments both onshore and offshore.
