Our Credit Underwriting Team is responsible for assessing Consumer Mortgage Applications up to $4million to eligible customers.  Our goal is to minimise risk to the Bank and provide exceptional service to our brokers and exceed customer expectations.

A large part of the role is to work with our stakeholders and vendors to strengthen relationships and aim towards first call resolution.

Your key accountabilities include but are not limited to:

  • Timely and accurate assessment of New Business and Variations Applications which requires accountability of file management from assigned to settlement. 
  • Prepare submissions to Risk and Legal, including recommendations and or mitigants as per Citibank's Credit Policy Guidelines
  • Mortgage Product exceptions as and when required
  • Clear understanding of  to Citibank/LMI  Policies, Procedures and Risk Bulletins
  • Adhere to timeframes on Compliance Training and Quality Assurance
  • Prepare instructions to Citibank Solicitors including managing the file up to settlement
  • Manage Pipeline Application including reworks and re-approvals
  • Management of post settlement clarifications received from Vendors and Business Partners regarding non maintenance of settled applications
  • Quality Assurance of 95%
  • Approve applications under your delegation and assist with 2nd signatures

Credit Assessment

  • Credit Delegation of  >= $1.5million
  • Ability to assess Trust Applications, Partnerships, Complex Self Employed , Overseas Borrowers and Structured Finance , including analysing complex financial data

Trust Loans

Thorough understanding of different Trust Structure/Types
• Ability to read different Trust Deed and its terminology
• Understanding of ASIC/PPSR Register searches
• Ability to discuss scenarios with Risk and Legal 
• Ability to understand the structure of the application and ensure it meets Citibank's Credit  Policy Guidelines

Overseas Borrowers
  • Understanding of  tax ruling in different countries including Government restrictions in different markets
  • Currency controls
  • Ability to read foreign income including Financial, Payslips and Bank statements in different languages
  • Knowledge of Global Markets

Complex Self Employed/Structured Applications/Partnerships
  • Ability to understand different structures
  • Understanding of Directorships/shareholding
  • Third Party Borrowing

Financial Analysis
  • Ability to read and understand Company/Trust/Self Managed Superfund/Partnership and Individual Tax Returns
  • Ability to understand income from various sources i.e. multiple properties income, income from investments SMSF and managed funds
  • Ability to discuss financials with Accountants
  • Ability to communicate with Senior Risk and Product Manager in regards to exceptions
  • Ability to assess customer's borrowing capacity using different income stream and addbacks  

Customer /Broker Service Excellence
  • Provide  exceptional service and information to the Brokers to enable them to maintain key relationships and meet time critical SLAs
  • Meet customer/broker needs
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Business Development Managers, Mortgage Specialist, customers and brokers


Competencies and Experience to be successful in this position you must have the following skills and experience:
  • Degree in Accounting and Finance or Diploma in Banking and Finance
  • Up to 10 years of Mortgage Credit Underwriting
  • Experience in an operational environment (ideally obtained within banking and finance)
  • High level of computer literacy in MS Power Point and Word / Intermediate level in Excel
  • Demonstrated understanding of implications for working within a regulated environment
  • Well organised, attention to detail and able to meet deadlines
  • Understanding of Australian Market & Regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple stakeholders across multiple business channels
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to work autonomously and within a team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure
