Enjoy helping smart people overcome their technical issues? Get on board as a Shield in Atlassian's Build Engineering team.
As a Shield in Atlassian's Build Engineering team, you'll be supporting Atlassian developers that use our world-class continuous integration (CI) systems. You'll respond to queries that require a wide breadth of knowledge across many systems and tech stacks, and ensure our users' perspective is represented within our team. You'll also be responding to incidents, analysing trends in user queries to help reduce support load on the team, running projects to reduce this load, and automating away repetitive work.
Roughly once every couple of months you'll be rostered on-call for a week to ensure the availability of our critical systems. Due to Atlassian's global footprint, you may occasionally travel to our offices in the USA to connect with our Silicon Valley and Austin-based users. More about you
On your first day, you'll have experience in:
providing support to a technical user base,
supporting Java-based applications,
Linux system administration,
automating repetitive tasks with scripts/apps,
SQL and RDBMS management, We'd be super excited if you have
Experience in incident management,
strong familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tooling (Bamboo, Jenkins, etc.),
software development skills across a variety of tech stacks,
knowledge of and experience with DevOps practice and philosophy,
experience with container management and microservices architectures such as Docker & Kubernetes, and
building and maintaining infrastructure in a cloud provider (e.g. AWS). More about our team
For many years the Build Engineering team has been providing the underlying Continuous Integration services that power the development of Atlassian's products and services. Despite being a small team, we provide the platform that allows Atlassian developers to run many thousands of CI builds per day, ensuring it remains fast, reliable and easy to use.
We follow modern development best-practices and apply these to our operational work. We often find ourselves inventing new approaches not seen elsewhere to meet the constantly evolving CI needs of Atlassian developers, and much of our work goes into scaling our systems to keep pace with Atlassian's own growth. We explicitly set time aside for innovation and experimentation, and are always on the lookout for new technologies or tooling to help us achieve our goals.
We also consult as domain specialists to our developers to help them embrace best practices in their CI pipelines and debug any particularly tricky issues they have with using our platform.
You may or may not have much experience with CI but if you enjoy automating repetitive tasks, investigating and unclogging bottlenecks and working in areas that span through cloud infrastructure, operating systems and application environments then this is the team for you. More about our benefits
