Job Description:

The iShares Institutional Sales Specialist acts as a subject matter expert and senior distribution specialist for the iShares institutional business in Australia. The role is responsible for iShares business development, education and service of clients based in Australia and New Zealand, working closely with the broader Institutional Client Business. This includes client engagement, education and coverage of the broadly defined Asset Manager and Asset Owner segment which includes implementation and overlay teams, trading desks, and asset class functions within Superannuation Funds, Asset Managers, Insurers and Brokers. The role will work closely with the iShares US, European and AxJ Capital Markets teams to deliver insightful pricing and analysis for Institutional investors looking at the various options and to access direct index strategies in the capital markets including assisting clients to navigate synthetic instruments such as swaps, futures, CDX, TRS. The role will be required to also act as a markets specialist, leveraging the firm’s global research teams including the iShares ETF Investment Strategy and BlackRock Investment Institute teams to deliver clients with timely market insights, cross-asset relative value or technical observations, trade ideas and market commentary. The successful candidate will work closely with and report to the Head of Institutional Distribution for iShares Australia.

Major Responsibilities

  • As a senior distribution specialist, take responsibility for business development within the broadly defined asset manager and asset owner universe in Australia and New Zealand, supporting the Head of Institutional Distribution to broaden the client base, build and deepen client relationships, and deliver the best outcome for clients and BlackRock
  • Drive the adoption of ETF use by new and existing institutional clients in Australia and New Zealand to deliver on assigned business targets
  • Bring a capital markets approach, acting as an ETF and Indexing specialist, and drawing on your depth of expertise in markets, as well as instruments such as derivatives, swaps, futures and CDX to assist institutional investors to access direct index strategies
  • Build a solid understanding of the capabilities and insights of the global firm, and leverage those insights to bring the best trade ideas and market insights to clients
  • Proactively seek out and deliver relevant and insightful day to day investment content, product information and insights tied to research, market insights, trends, and regulation
  • Partner closely with and collaborate with the BlackRock Institutional Client business to identify and target existing and potential clients. Take a long term relationship approach
  • Understand each client’s due diligence process and investment requirements and develop a strategic relationship with relevant gatekeepers through active coverage
  • Develop and demonstrate a depth of understanding of the client base, including the regulatory and market landscape and drivers. Provide top market intelligence to help guide client engagement, business strategy and planning and sales initiatives
  • Set and execute high performing activity plans and assist with the strategic approach to client engagement to grow the iShares Institutional business. Be organized, strategic and diligent with your approach to client development, and demonstrate diligent use of client relationship management tools to record client activity and interaction
  • Partner with Marketing to develop localized best in class institutional quality marketing and education materials with a view to position iShares as the leader in institutional ETFs
  • Conduct institutional quality client education and brand development events including webinars, speaking engagements, panels, small and large format education seminars and round tables
  • Drive the education and adoption of capital markets insights from our Americas and European based business for local Australian Institutional clients. This includes modelling of ETFs verses synthetic instruments (both equity and fixed income) from an Australian institutional investor’s perspective
  • Follow a team-based approach and leverage the Firm’s resources at appropriate times in the sales cycle, in order to broaden and deepen the usage of iShares; and
  • Be a senior member of the team: lead, mentor and develop younger team members

Experience, Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • 8+ years relevant financial services experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline
  • Sales experience gained from working in a high quality sell side firm selling cash equities, derivatives, or fixed income products.
  • Proven expertise in promoting investment products to sophisticated clients.
  • Relevant client relationships
  • Strong understanding of global capital markets, including equities, fixed income, commodities and alternatives
  • Strong experience in derivatives, fixed income, synthetics, delta one, or capital markets preferred
  • Strong understanding of Australia’s superannuation, insurance and asset management industries including understanding of the regulatory requirement in the region and sense of the medium and long-term
  • Experience in managing relationships with multi-level contacts, externally and internally. The ability to be both a consultative and strategic seller.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills, experience, and ability to become a trusted client advisor.
  • Strong time management, interpersonal skills and presentation skills
  • Results oriented with high activity and capable of operating autonomously.
  • Strong team player, who is able to collaborate credibly internally in order to leverage the Firm’s resources locally as well as globally
  • Understanding of product set – preferably both ETFs and competitive landscape of delta one products.
  • Prior experience of at least 5 years in institutional client coverage
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in best-practice client service
  • Excellent attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
