Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA?We are looking for a Junior Credit Analyst (AVP) to join Booking & Credit Management Group in Brussels Branch .

This is an opportunity to develop broad credit judgement across transactions, work closely with front-office and control functions, and contribute directly to well-balanced credit decisions for the Brussels loan portfolio.

In this role you will be responsible for:

• Analysing transaction requests from a credit risk perspective and assessing their fit with portfolio appetite, regulatory requirements and profitability expectations.
• Preparing clear, concise and balanced credit recommendations for the Local Management Committee, supported by sound financial and risk analysis.
• Working with front-office teams and key stakeholders, including Risk Management, Compliance, Operations, and Treasury etc to clarify issues and support an efficient credit process.
• Contribute to portfolio management to follow up closely the risk evolution of the loan book.

Business Area

Booking & Credit Management Group supports the SMBC Brussels Branch business by providing independent credit analysis and recommendations on transactions proposed for booking. The team helps to ensure decisions are consistent with the defined risk appetite, regulatory expectations and the overall quality of the portfolio.

Position Description

Our role will enable you to:

• Develop independent credit judgement through analysis of counterparties, cash flows, transaction structures and key documentation terms.
• Assess credit risk using relevant financial ratios, credit metrics and market indicators.
• Draft comprehensive but concise recommendations that present key strengths, risks, mitigants and a clear conclusion.
• Challenge transaction assumptions constructively and identify questions or conditions needed for an informed decision.
• Build effective working relationships with front-office teams and stakeholders across Risk, Compliance, Treasury and other functions.
• Support internal processes and contribute to a consistent, efficient and high-quality credit decision.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• University-level education in finance, economics or a related field.
• Good understanding of financial statements, fundamental credit principles and key transaction documentation terms.
• Initial experience with credit risk metrics, market indicators or cash flow analysis.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to form a holistic view.
• Clear and professional English communication, both written and verbal.
• Ability to organise work, manage deadlines and remain flexible when priorities change.
• Team spirit, initiative, intellectual curiosity and an open, critical mindset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience in wholesale banking or transaction credit analysis is desirable.
