Job Purpose:
As Scotiabank's engine of modernization, the PLATO platform enables technology teams to build software quickly and securely using modern practices. PLATO is an integrated set of technical capabilities, services and processes that encapsulate critical enterprise functions through standardization, re-use and automation. The DevOps Engineering team aim to provide to tools and services that allow Scotiabank engineering teams to build and deploy software rapidly and safely. Our teams build and maintain bank's next-gen CI/CD tools and their governance. We are passionate about automation and sound engineering practices. Other PLATO teams are comprised of engineers, problem solvers, agilists and creatives in roles such as Enterprise Platform Engineering and Architecture, Enterprise Data Services, Cloud Infrastructure and Architecture, Product Engineering, and Product Management. Together, the team provides the platform that enables the Bank to deliver transformative experiences that help our 24 million customers become better off.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide guidance and advice for day to day software development, as well as the interfacing and integration of with other development teams
  • Train and mentor junior engineers to further develop competencies and skills
  • Create implementation plans from requirements and designs that the rest of the team can implement
  • Implement solutions from team's designs
  • Help in technical requirements analysis and effort estimation
  • Communicating and explaining designs to the engineers from both inside and outside of the team
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies such as planning, grooming, retro, demo, and scrums
  • Assist with project planning and coordination, project risk management
  • Contribute to improving design, automation, testability of CI/CD components to improve team velocity
  • Contribute clear, tested, and maintainable code to a shared codebase

Requirements:

  • Object Oriented Programming: Java or similar (5+ years experience)
  • Experience working Database (3+ years experience)
  • API/Web Development Experience: NodeJS, JavaScript/ES6+, HTML/CSS, React
  • Experience with Design Patterns and Best Engineering Practices
  • Strong working knowledge with Unix/Linux and network
  • Experience with DevOps tools: Docker, Shell script, Jenkins, CI/CD
  • Experience working with Cloud Services: Azure, GCP, or AWS (3+ years experience)
  • Process mapping and process improvement experience an asset
