As part of Global Risk, Regulatory Compliance ensures adherence to applicable regulations and standards by setting the policies which cover HSBC's regulatory requirements, and mitigate conduct and reputational risk issues. The team strives to remain ahead of the regulatory change agenda and ensures the business understands the implications and is prepared for change. It monitors how the Global Businesses and Functions manage their responsibilities with regard to complying with the regulations and helps resolve compliance deficiencies.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Associate Director, Regulatory Compliance, Surveillance .

Principal responsibilities

  • Assist the Regional Head of Surveillance in building out and documenting procedures and guidelines for surveillance and investigations, global standards, regionally anchored.
  • Ensure that the wider Surveillance department has confidence in the expected levels of review coverage, and that the surveillance systems and controls are operating effectively and in accordance with our regulatory expectations.
  • Escalate regulatory breaches to business and Compliance Senior Management in order that appropriate action can be undertaken to rectify.
  • Foster a close relationship with the other Compliance Teams, exchanges and regulators.
  • Assist in the timely review of policy lexicons and subsequent alert production.
  • Identify potential new forms of staff or counterparty misconduct.
  • Determine whether these could be identified through the surveillance team's current systems, processes, people and the data sets surveilled.
  • In liaison with the Change Team, prioritize the development of the systems, processes, people and data sets needed to better identify these new forms of misconduct for their business or asset class.
  • Input into and track the development of these new surveillance capabilities
  • In most cases the individual will be responsible for dealing with the alerts once they have already been passed through a first level one filter by the offshore team.
  • Where the offshore team has yet to develop the ability to perform level one filtering, the individual may be required to engage in level one filtering directly.
  • Where automated surveillance has yet to be developed the individual may be required to engage in manual surveillance.
  • Ensure that all alerts are satisfactorily escalated and resolved.
  • Provide support and guidance for our expanding off shoring function in Bangalore.

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Ability to lead and develop a team.
  • Ability to handle escalated issues and take these forward with Senior Management.
  • Compliance monitoring experience and expertise is highly desired.
  • A sound understanding of local regulation particularly in relation to the rules relevant to trading and sales activities.
  • Indepth knowledge of local market abuse regulation and overseas regulations an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of Global Banking and Markets.
  • Sound understanding of the SFO
  • Ability to support decisions with sound reasoning. Ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both Compliance and Business Management.
  • Ambition to enhance compliance knowledge and skill set in a rapidly changing and dynamic markets environment.
  • Supervisory skills are advantageous.
  • Sound Product Control background or awareness could be an advantage.
  • Ability to use technological resources available for surveillance activities.
