Position Overview

Overview:

DWS is seeking an experienced candidate to join the Alternatives APAC Division as a Business Manager and Governance, Risk and Control Officer for the Alternatives APAC business.

As the Governance, R isk & Control Officer for Alternatives APAC, he/she will be responsible for ensuring that the business is in full compliance with all regional/international laws and regulations that pertain to its industry, as well as professional standards, accepted business practices and internal policies and procedures. He / She will work closely with the Global Head of Alternatives Governance in coordination with regional product teams to ensure the business is being conducted in an ethical and legally sound manner. He / She will be responsible for instituting practices and key operating procedures that will ensure the highest possible level of compliance and manage any risk related to non-compliance.

Additionally, as a Business Manager for Alternatives APAC, he / she will be responsible for managing all hands-on operational aspects of specific business units within the Alternatives APAC division including the Sustainable Investments business in APAC – including but not limited to operations, compliance, finance, human resources and infrastructure management. He / she will work with the COO for Alternatives APAC to take a strategic view on the businesses and ensure seamless infrastructure alignment and frameworks and will also directly engage with senior stakeholders both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Governance, Risk & Control Officer for Alternatives APAC, DWS Group
  • Conduct quarterly control testing (including supervisory controls) for the Alternatives APAC business
  • Prepare management reporting of results of quarterly control testing, status of audit issue closure and ongoing project status / risks
  • Participate in regulatory change project working groups and support the COO for Alternatives APAC to consistently implement requirements by regulatory deadlines
  • Develop and implement practices and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory rules and regulations, as well as Deutsche Bank / DWS Policies
  • Coordinate with the businesses to ensure that procedures documents are updated annually
  • Assist with the closure of Audit and Compliance issues
  • Conduct business continuity testing for the APAC businesses
  • Coordinate responses for annual risk assessments of the APAC Alternatives business conducted by Compliance, Anti-Financial Crime team, Divisional Controls Office
  • Recognize any recurring issues and analyse their causes in order to reach a solution
  • Implement and monitor compliance with a new governance framework for new business of Real Estate APAC


Business Manager for Alternatives APAC, DWS Group
  • Expense management – responding to inquiries from business, support ongoing product launch and closures, and expense structure changes. Review of expense ratios in regulatory and fund documents.
  • Responsible for working in partnership with the rest of the team to create strategic plans and implement new processes and approaches to achieve it
  • Develop, establish and direct the execution of operating policies to support Alternatives' overall objectives
  • Oversee all administrative functions of specific business units, ensuring smooth daily operations providing timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the business
  • Oversee risk management and legal activities: client contracts, partnership agreements, leases and other legal documents pertaining to specific Alternatives' business units
  • Provide oversight on the financials, tax filings and regulatory reporting prepared by external administrators for specific Alternatives' business units
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with the finance and operations groups internally

Qualification Requirements
  • Minimum +2 years of legal, operations and/or compliance experience preferred
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to work with different stakeholders, both internal and external, across a wide variety of functions
  • Superior relationship management, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding
  • Must be extremely organized and diligent
  • Requires strong communication skills at all levels and must have Chinese and English language fluency at a business and technical level
