Development Specialist - HSBC Operations, Services and Technology

IT Operations manages the IT infrastructure and supporting services that are critical for HSBC employees and customers, such as cost-efficient hardware, system software, middleware and databases, data centres, voice and data networks, ATMs, desktops and other devices. It employs around 8,500 employees globally and comprises five functions: Client Services, Enterprise Services and Architecture, Data Centre and Service Management, Relationship Management, Project Management and PMO, and Risk and Administration. Collectively, these areas define and deliver HSBC's technology strategy to support the Group's goals.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Development Specialist .

Principal responsibilities

  • The role would primarily be involved in software development of a scrum team covering online securities trading platform, order management and execution, middle office and back office systems which includes margining, suitability, settlement, finance, compliance etcetera
  • Hands on development of applications on large scale critical platform.
  • The candidate would work closely with the business, engineers and other development supporting teams in different geographic locations to deliver system solutions to address business issues.
  • The candidate would involve and responsible in all phases of the project lifecycle from initiation through to management of any post implementation issues.
  • Ensure business requirements are met or exceeded, on time and within budget in line with business targets.
  • Work as technical lead to implement quality project deliverables.
  • Identify and engage all key stakeholders, contributors and business and technical resources that must participate in the assigned projects and ensure that contributors are motivated to complete assigned tasks within the parameters of the project plan.
  • Facilitate regular project meetings and follow up with project team members as required to focus on business and operational issues or technical issues, documenting, assigning and monitoring all project issues to ensure clearance with minimal impact to project progress.
  • Lead in business requirement review, system design, code review and application testing.
  • Create and maintain a traceability matrix across Business Requirement and functional specifications through to test cases.
  • Support testing, coordinate with business and IT tracking test cases and defects.
  • Must be familiar with system scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, to effectively coordinate the activities of the team.
  • Design and implement system solution to meet demands from business driven projects.
  • Participate in the testing, implementation and roll out of the system.
  • Provide production support on roster basis.


Qualifications

Requirements

  • A university graduate with degree in computer science or a related discipline.
  • Proven substantial years of IT working experience on application development, preferably in an enterprise or a global environment.
  • Strong understanding in Java and Spring framework.
  • Experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Web Services and SQL.
  • Experience in below technology will be an advantage: HTML5, Ajax, React, JSON, MQ, Spring MVC, Spring Boot, Spring Data, Hibernate, Spring Batch, Maven, JUnit, Oracle, Sybase, DB2.
  • Experience in CI or DevOps tools, such as Confluence, Jira, Jenkins, GitHub.
  • Experience in Pivotal Cloud Foundry and AWS would be an advance.
  • Strong understanding in software engineering lifecycle and agile methodologies, such as TDD, Scrum Planning, Refactoring practices.
  • Strong problem solving skills, able to work independently and also within a global team.
  • A self-starter with excellent analytical and planning skills, strong in time management and resource management.
  • Able to prioritise work in environment where demand exceeds supply and resolving the conflicts that result, be flexible and respond to changing environments.
  • Able to build strong relationships with business units and IT teams. Able to interface and influence in the organisation.
  • Able to think strategically whilst having a rigorous, detail oriented approach to project delivery planning and management.
  • Tenacious and able to challenge the normal status quo whilst suggesting viable alternative approaches.
  • Preferably, front to back functional and logical knowledge of broking service. Comprehensive knowledge of at least one, and preferably all, in Order Management Flow, Real time data feed, Credit, Equities, Fixed Income and Derivatives Operations.
  • Proficient in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
  • Flexible and adaptable in accommodating change of requirement and willing to take new responsibilities when necessary.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver in a responsive manner.
