Leading Hedge Fund in Hong Kong seeking a Fixed Income Analyst (China specialist) to take responsibility for Regional Coverage of the Asian Corporate Bond market. The target candidate should have at least 3-5 years’ experience in covering mainland Chinese credit at either a buy side or sell side firm or with a recognized credit rating agency and ideally hands on experience with meetings and assessing government linked entities in China such and state owned enterprises (SOE’s) and Local Government Financing Vehicles (LGFV). This role has the potential to evolve into portfolio management experience if the candidate shows the necessary acumen.

Key Target Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor or Master degree, ideally in a financial markets related discipline
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the industry
  • Specific experience in analyzing Mainland Chinese corporates including SOE’s and potentially LGFV’s
  • Experience in reading and analyzing financial accounts under both international reporting standards and local reporting standards in China
  • Multi-sector experience with a history in assessing a range of industries
  • Ability to create financial models and generate internal credit reports
  • Flexibility to travel regularly to Mainland China for due diligence meetings
  • Highly fluent in both English and Mandarin

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Will take full responsibility for research coverage of the Pan-Asia USD bond market
  • Generate internal credit rating reports on portfolio constituent names using financial and business assessment including building forecast models and meeting with company management
  • Assessment of regular news flow and to provide timely opinions of market impacting events 
  • Daily briefing to the Front Office team on developments in the market
  • Daily assessment of relative value in the market in order to provide investment recommendations for the portfolio
  • Assessment of primary market issues including attending issuer roadshow meetings and to provide recommendations for the Portfolio Manager
  • To arrange and meet with bond issuers company management on a regular basis both in and out of Hong Kong
  • To liaise closely with sell-side research teams to investigate potential investment ideas and attending investor trips and conferences
  • To assist the portfolio manager in production of marketing materials for the funds
  • To provide backup portfolio oversight when the main PM is travelling
