The Control Tower Associate is a role within the OPER / CLM / KYC, specifically with the Existing Client Management - ECM (KYC reviews). KYC function is a pillar of SGCIB's anti-money laundering system. Its mission is to ensure the bank is compliant with its obligation of client identification and due diligence on a worldwide basis and to provide the institution with adequate and complete client information.

OPER / CLM / KYC / ECM carries out the review process on a worldwide basis with two main missions within SGCIB:

  • Conduct the reviews of existing clients based on periodic cycle
  • Perform verification and controls pertaining to the identity and reputation of clients (customer due diligence) so as to ensure compliance of the Bank with regulatory obligations of vigilance; and validate the acceptability of the client relationship per internal compliance standards and procedures
  • Ensure the relevance, quality and accuracy of main client description and categorization attributes in SGCIB and SG Group client data bases


Main Responsibilities

This role will form an integral part of the KYC Existing Client Management periodic review Cycle. The responsibilities of this role are broken down into five key elements:

KYC Periodic Reviews
  • Prepare the annual campaign of the periodic reviews. Identify the scope to be delivered allocate the reviews in the different country portfolios
  • Animate the annual campaign life cycle. Work with global stakeholders for review follow-ups. Manage review file assignments re-balancing between different portfolios
  • Exercise governance of the review process, and lead the analysis for problematic KYC reviews or issues and propose solutions
Deactivation Process
  • Coordinate the process of deactivation between all stakeholders
  • Monitor the quality of the production of the deactivation team (based in Bangalore) and take lead in following up the deactivation process
  • Be the point of escalation for issues relating to clients that were deactivated. Ensure post-mortem and action follow-up of the incident
Restriction Process
  • Take charge of the coordination between all actors of the process for Missing Documentation, including escalations to Global Team
  • Define common calendar and ensure adherence to deadlines
  • Define the scope of eligible clients for the region for each restriction wave
  • Discuss exemption rules with FO / Compliance / KYC. Communicate and control statuses of restriction following decision to restrict
  • Be the point of escalation for issues regarding restricted clients. Ensure post-mortem and action follow-up of the incident
Review Performance Monitoring
  • Perform the analysis of review indicators to identify root causes of poor performance of the review. Monitor the set-up of corrective actions to meet the defined target by the function owner
  • Take ownership of the monitoring tools. Provide proposals for the design and strategy for optimizing the KYC team's monitoring process
Review Process Improvement
  • Lead in the implementation of various deliverables under the KYC Periodic Reviews including restrictions
  • Analyze and document ECM review process
  • Lead the convergence effort on a worldwide basis with the objective of preventing issues between regions
  • Identify opportunities to improve the process and monitor the implementation of initiatives
  • Lead or contribute to optimization projects impacting the KYC periodic review functions



  • At least years of relevant experience in KYC / AML
  • A good understanding of the review process, including IDD phase to Analysis, as well as restrictions/Inactivation as outlined in the major responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Control orientated with a change mindset and the ability to challenge policy and processes
  • Knowledge of the KYC review process and mandatory documents required for review
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and data management skills; self motivated
  • Strong time management & analytical skills
  • Strong PC skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Demonstrates knowledge of operational processes, issues, post trade activities control and impact to processes. Flexibility to work on multiple tasks and deadlines
