Level 2 Financial Reporting Controller

Primary Objectives

Norms, Advisory and Control (NAC) team within Finance (DFIN) department is a group of accounting, regulatory and assurance experts that uphold Société Générale (SG) Group's accounting & regulatory standards and independently supervise effectiveness of controls framework. NAC strategically act as 'Second Line of Defence' (Level 2) in DFIN which fulfils the Group's regulator requirement.

This role bases in Hong Kong, regional hub of Asia Pac, which also has a team of NAC with the regional finance team. The successful candidate exposes to variety of SG business in the region (e.g. corporate & investment banking, brokerage, global transaction banking) and acts as interlocutors with senior managers and management on different subjects.

The primary responsibilities of this controller include:

1. Regional Financial Reporting Risk Assessment

- Maintain aggregate view on Asia's financial reporting risk (e.g. review anomalies declared from control tools/ I2C, operational incidents …etc)
- Review completeness of control framework for financial reporting process in collaboration with regional entity controllers
- Monitor quarterly closing and participate in governance meeting with legal entity CFO (e.g. risky zone, internal control certification meetings)

2. Formulate & Conduct Spot Check

- Participate in control testing ('Spot Check') roadmap formulation and fine- tune based on financial risk assessment
- Conduct Spot Check on risky financial reporting controls and processes (by means of walkthrough, reperformance and sample check) to give opinion on the quality of control design and performance
- Propose improvement recommendation on any ineffective control and agree recommendation with auditee

3. Oversee & steer Asia Spot Check

- Actively co-ordinate with controllers in local Finance and Global Service Centre to steer Level 2 control framework and to consolidate all Spot Check results for a regional view
- Follow up till closure of recommendations raised to auditee
- Regularly update on regional spot check roadmap status (by KPI dashboard) & financial risk alerts to local CFO, regional CFO & GBIS management and NAC Paris

4. Accounting control norms and Projects

- Assess relevancy on Group's accounting and control norms to the region
- Cascade and train the Group norms to all relevant Asia's stakeholders
- Contribute to projects initiated by Paris head office and the regions


Key Skill Areas and Knowledge Required

• University graduate in Accounting, Finance or Business school
• 7+ years previous work experience or knowledge in Internal / External Audit of Financial Institution, Finance
or Risk Consulting, experience of outsourcing service centre internal audit is a plus
• Preferably a certified accountant
• Good communication skills in both verbal and written
• Highly motivated and team player
• Proficient in Excel with knowledge in VBA an advantage
• Knowledge of new digital technology/ data visualization tools an advantage
• Knowledge of outsourcing service centre set-up for Finance and product controls perimeter
