Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Model Risk Governance Manager.

Principal responsibilities

  • Provide necessary processes and controls to help businesses and functions mitigate and pro actively manage risks arising from the use of models.
  • Provide a more risk based approach to model risk management to help prioritise resources and focus on material risks to the business.
  • Improve the understanding of model risk to help the business determine their model risk profile and appetite.
  • Enhance the consistency of policies, standards and processes
  • Interaction with modelling teams, model owners, model users, Independent Model Review and Internal Audit on Model Risk governance matters.
  • Interaction with Lines of Business and Functions including Risk, Finance, IT and et cetera to support delivery and implementation of requirements.
  • Interaction with Senior Management through various Model Oversight Committees and Risk Management Committees.
  • Interaction with Regulators and other industry bodies, as needed, on Model Risk governance matters.

  • Degree in a quantitative discipline preferred.
  • Previous experience in model development, monitoring, validation, and or model risk governance and policy development.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills and the ability to exercise leadership.
  • Previous banking experience or banking knowledge.
  • Understanding of current and emerging regulatory developments and trends on modelling, model risk governance and model risk management
  • Risk and or Regulatory reporting knowledge especially using Cognos will be an advantage.
