This is a role which will be split 50-50 between two responsibilities: 1) as a research database administrator, part of a global team; and 2) as an associate to the Research product manager for Asia. The role is based in Hong Kong.

Candidates should have an understanding of general accounting principles and an interest in equity research, though experience as a financial analyst is not required. Candidates should also have some background in programming languages useful for data science (e.g. Python, R). He or she should have an affinity with technology in general, and be willing to learn to use Macquarie proprietary systems.

The role does involve a great deal of interaction with analysts and strong spoken and written communication skills are required, as is a high degree of English language proficiency. The role also involves trouble-shooting analyst models and strong analytical ability is therefore a must, as are advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

The ideal candidate would be a recent graduate in business/finance/accounting and/or a CFA candidate, who has strong coding skills and has experience writing macros/SQL statements. Alternatively, we are willing to consider computer science/engineering graduates with some knowledge of finance/accounting and willingness to learn.


Database administrator:

  • Maintaining the Macquarie Research coverage database
  • Trouble-shooting analyst models
  • Data requests from Research & Sales staff
  • Improving data quality for the Asian coverage

Research product manager associate:
  • Working with the Research product manager (overall management of the Macquarie Research product) on a day to day basis
  • Assisting in writing ad-hoc research reports, with heavy emphasis on data science

  • Attention to detail, problem solving skills
  • Communication skills, English language proficiency
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience in programming, e.g. Python, R, VBA macros
  • Demonstrable interest in financial analysis, accounting

Preferred attributes:
  • Experience in database maintenance, especially with a financial data vendor
  • Understanding of relational databases/SQL
  • Knowledge of Reuters, Factset, Bloomberg.
