Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel.
Provide support and guidance to the Business as directed by Deputy General Counsel Data Privacy and Digital in providing counsel related to Data Privacy and Information Governance, including matters that are complex or have potential for significant legal, financial and or reputational impact, with a particular focus on Hong Kong data privacy requirements.
Provide support for all aspects related to Data Privacy and Information Governance within Hong Kong Legal HSBC, including structuring and legal implications of transactions, projects and initiatives including those related to risks, such as cybersecurity, and also innovative uses of customer data such as behavioral advertising, mobile apps and big data opportunities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with the Business
Liaison with Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner regarding data privacy matters.
Provide support and assist Deputy General Counsel Data Privacy and Digital in establishing strategic and local policies that ensure that the Bank’s exposure to legal and regulatory risk related to Data Privacy and Information Governance is managed in a commercially sensitive and practical manner, with a particular focus on Hong Kong data privacy requirements.
Provide support to Hong Kong Legal for group corporate transactions, projects or initiatives, including major outsourcing and technology transactions, with respect to Data Privacy and Information Governance issues to facilitate successful and timely execution as required by the Deputy General Counsel Data Privacy and Digital.
Regular and ad hoc reports and communications are, at the direction of Deputy General Counsel Data Privacy and Digital, shared with senior business or function management and Regional and Business Legal General Counsels on significant data privacy and information governance issues impacting Hong Kong Legal.
Comprehensive knowledge and experience of Hong Kong Data Privacy law
Working knowledge of regional data privacy laws an advantage
Legal qualification preferred, but not essential
Ability to work with the business to create risk-based, practical solutions
Experience working within complex corporate structures
Recognised as a subject matter expert
Strong ability to prioritise
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Lateral thinking and problem solving
Chinese language skills an advantage
