The role of the Audit Manager is to execute the audit plans in FIL's Hong Kong and Asian businesses to ensure that business operations are effectively and efficiently controlled. The Audit Manager will plan and conduct his own reviews and produce audit findings, containing practical and effective recommendations, for presentation to Senior Management following review by the Head of Internal Audit, Asia Pacific.

Department Description

FIL's Internal Audit department provides objective internal control evaluation and operational and technical review services to the management and shareholders of the FIL companies. Internal Audit members have extensive experience in assurance functions and/or various FIL business units and have relevant professional qualifications. The Asia-Pacific Internal Audit department is an integral part of the Group Internal Audit function, which is responsible to the Group Audit Committee.

Purpose of your role

The role of the Audit Manager is to execute the audit plans in FIL's Hong Kong and Asian businesses to ensure that business operations are effectively and efficiently controlled. The Audit Manager will plan and conduct his own reviews and produce audit findings, containing practical and effective recommendations, for presentation to Senior Management following review by the Head of Internal Audit, Asia Pacific.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Internal Audit in determining the annual audit plans for the Asian businesses, including Hong Kong Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, Korea and China. Develop the definition and scope of audits. Serve as a senior departmental resource on issues of audit strategy.
  • Execute planned audits, including preparation of audit scope memoranda and work papers, and managing the completion of the audit within the given timeframe.
  • Document audit testing using best practice and form conclusions based on the outcome of the testing.
  • Identify areas in need of improvement and assist in development of an action plan.
  • Prepare audit reports and conduct exit meetings to obtain management concurrence and responses.
  • Liaise with other Auditors from Asia-Pacific/UK where additional resources or expertise are required. Work with employees and consultants assigned to specific audits as needed.
  • Maintain familiarity with evolving, state of the art audit tools and techniques. Act as liaison to professional societies and to colleagues in other firms.
  • Assist the Head of Internal Audit in developing standards for the audit program, including performance, cost control and quality control.
  • Conduct investigations and ad hoc assignments as required.

Experience and Qualifications Required

Technical 40%

  • Qualified accountant with a good knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of auditing.
  • Ability to speak and read English fluently. Cantonese and Mandarin ability would be an advantage.
  • Awareness of regulatory environment in Hong Kong and Asia Pacific.
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience); MBA or other advanced degree desirable.
  • Professional auditing/accounting qualification, such as CPA/ACA
  • 8 years+ experience in auditing/accounting. Ideally has worked in a big 4 firm and in an international organisation and been exposed to the dealings of a global team.


Business 30%

  • Expertise in internal control auditing and/or a good understanding of a mutual funds, brokerage, banking or other financial services business.
  • Knowledge of or an aptitude for learning FIL's products and their related support functions.
  • Ability to focus on issues and to identify and acquire the resources needed to accomplish departmental goals.
  • Capability of attending to multiple assignments in a fast paced environment; ability to personally execute audit tasks as required.


Interpersonal 30%

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Experienced and comfortable in delivering both planned and ad hoc presentations to senior management. Ability to present, and justify, independent views to senior management. Self-confident nature and the ability to build relationships at all levels, whilst remaining independent of management; good influencing skills.
  • Attention to detail, with ability to also see the overall situation.
  • Ability to work well as a team member.
  • Willing to travel within Asia and to UK periodically for training / short term assignment.
