Observability Platform Engineer
London Stock Exchange Group Bangalore, IndiaObservability Platform Engineer
London Stock Exchange Group Bangalore, India
ROLE SUMMARY:
We are hiring Engineers to help build LSEG's internal observability platform - work that directly changes how hundreds of engineering teams across the business understand and operate their services!
Our platform brings telemetry, dashboards, alerts, service health, and operational insight into one common experience. It is built on a modular, standards-based stack using OpenTelemetry, Cribl, ClickHouse, Grafana, and Redis, with integration points to Datadog, BigPanda, and other tooling where needed.
Cribl is the routing and normalisation backbone of our telemetry pipeline, and engineers in this role will spend significant time designing, building, and evolving Cribl pipelines that move and shape data across the platform. The focus of this role is engineering delivery - designing, building, testing, and documenting features from the product backlog. This is a product engineering role, not an operational or support role.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
Platform feature delivery:
- Design, build, and maintain Cribl pipelines for telemetry routing, normalisation, enrichment, filtering, and fanout across multiple destinations.
- Develop and manage Cribl packs to standardise pipeline logic across teams and signal types.
- Deliver features and improvements from the platform product backlog, including design, implementation, testing, and documentation.
- Implement and maintain OpenTelemetry collector configurations for diverse signal types, including metrics, logs, traces, and events.
- Design and evolve ClickHouse schemas for telemetry storage and query performance.
- Build Grafana dashboards and alerting configurations for platform and user team use cases.
Integration and infrastructure:
- Develop integrations with Datadog, BigPanda, and other downstream systems via APIs and automation.
- Write infrastructure-as-code using Terraform for platform components and integrations.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows in collaboration with the DevOps engineer.
Standards and collaboration:
- Participate in code reviews, uphold engineering standards, and contribute to a healthy engineering culture.
- Improve platform documentation, onboarding guides, and self-service processes that reduce dependency on direct support.
- Work collaboratively with team members across multiple locations and time zones.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Essential skills and experience:
- Hands-on Cribl experience: building and operating pipelines, routes, and packs in a production environment.
- Experience in software or platform engineering, with a track record of delivering production-quality features in a team environment.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: readable code, testing practices, version control, and active code review participation.
- Experience developing integrations using REST APIs or event-driven patterns.
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and with CI/CD pipeline tooling.
- Understanding of telemetry concepts including metrics, logs, traces, cardinality, retention, and pipeline design.
- Ability to work from a product-style backlog and engage proactively with requirements and acceptance criteria.
Desirable skills and experience:
- Experience with CriblCloud or Cribl Edge deployment patterns.
- Experience building or contributing to internal platforms used by multiple engineering teams.
- Experience with ClickHouse SQL or similar columnar or analytical query languages.
- Familiarity with cloud environments or hybrid on-premises and cloud deployment patterns.
- Experience with GitOps workflows and practices.
- Experience in a regulated, financial services, or large enterprise technology environment.
WHAT YOU'LL GET IN RETURN:
This is a great opportunity to build something that genuinely matters - a platform that improves how engineering teams across a global enterprise understand and operate their systems!
We are committed to building an inclusive workplace where people from all backgrounds can grow and do meaningful work. We welcome applications from candidates with different experiences, perspectives, and career paths.
