Job Description

Business Overview

BlackRock's Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) group provides independent oversight of BlackRock's fiduciary and enterprise risks. The Enterprise Risk team within RQA oversees those risks which directly impact the corporate entity (i.e. BlackRock, Inc., or one of its subsidiaries), rather than the fiduciary risks assumed by funds/clients, such as investment risks and counterparty risks. The team's focus includes but is not limited to: operational risk, technology, vendor, model and market risk, stress testing for market risk and the quantitative estimation of capital adequacy requirements.

Enterprise Risk Management

The enterprise risk function remains closely engaged with the evolving regulatory environment and supervisory expectations, to ensure that BlackRock's internal risk and control frameworks remain consistent with these, and to coordinate regulatory initiatives from an RQA perspective (for example, capital and liquidity assessments).

The Enterprise Risk team works with Finance, Compliance, Internal Audit and other control-related teams to ensure an integrated, efficient and complete approach to the risks and controls of the firm from an enterprise standpoint.

The Regulatory Risk team within Enterprise Risk is responsible for conducting risk management in local jurisdictions, working with regulators, fund boards and corporate boards for specific risk-related activities. In partnership with the global RQA team, this role is responsible for the support and facilitation of independent investment risk oversight concerning BlackRock's broader business across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Responsibilities:

Based in Dublin, the candidate will work closely with regional RQA team leaders, regional control function heads, and as well as the Chief Risk Officer for BlackRock Asset Management Ireland Limited ("BAMIL").
  • Assist the Head of Risk Management in maintaining an effective risk management framework within BAMIL to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as set out in the UCITS, AIF and local regulations. This includes coverage of all aspects of investment risk, liquidity risk, counterparty risk and corporate risk.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of local risk management policies and procedures, together with adequate risk management systems, to identify, measure, manage and monitor risks appropriately, on an on-going basis.
  • Support and quality control of risk data and reporting to the Board of Directors of BAMIL on risk exceptions and any actions required to address risk issues.
  • Produce and interpret analytics to help identify and measure the sources of portfolio risk and return.
  • Assist senior risk managers with ad-hoc or routine portfolio risk analyses
  • As a member of the global RQA function, participation in global and/or regional risk management initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the financial industry, preferably in an investment/market risk or corporate risk capacity. Experience within asset management is preferred but not essential
  • Excellent analytical skills; critical thinking and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly R and Python, are highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Effective with individual contributors, teams and executive leadership.
  • Self-starter who is proactive and entrepreneurial; i.e. innovative and creative
  • Understanding of enterprise risk models and methodologies such as market risk, liquidity risk and stress testing
  • Collaborative business partner with ability to manage and influence relationships that are widely dispersed both functionally and geographically
  • Enthusiasm and energy combined with a clear sense of how to "make it happen" through teamwork, engagement and commitment
  • The preferred candidate would be able demonstrate a working knowledge of investment risk, counterparty, corporate or enterprise risk management
  • Knowledge of key tools applicable in risk management, primarily in relation to investment risk management
  • Experience in risk management in relation to regulatory requirements across EMEA level (UCITS, AIFMD) is a plus.
