POSITION

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

The Global Relationship Group ("GRG") in Japan works directly with clients, consultants, and prospects representing a range of financial reserves and institutional asset owners to develop and advance the business strategy for the group.  GRG's mission is to meet and/or exceed the service expectations of our clients. GRG members work cross functionally within Wellington Management to help deepen the relationships with clients, consultants, and prospects.

Role and responsibilities

The Relationship Manager (RM) will be responsible for pursuing business development activities for prospects, as well as deepening existing relationships.  The RM will help drive the business development strategy and approach, which should reinforce the firm's outstanding credentials and culture.  The RM will be responsible for ensuring appropriate coverage of a variety of business prospects and clients, driving new product development discussions, retaining/deepening existing relationships and providing feedback from the client/prospect universe. The RM will collaborate with other Relationship Managers, Account Managers and Relationship Analysts as a team to interact frequently with clients:  by phone, via written communication, and in-person. 

Qualifications
  • A high caliber individual with a minimum of 10+ years of experience within the investment industry and a proven track record in business development/relationship management role
  • Ability to demonstrate a deep understanding of investment products across asset classes, including equity, fixed income, alternative, and multi-asset investments
  • Highly successful in developing, as well as maintaining, long lasting relationships with financial institutions, including pension funds and others
  • A strong awareness of clients' needs and an understanding of how to position the firm's investment capabilities
  • Ability to communicate a thorough understanding of the investment environment including both markets and products to sophisticated audiences
  • Proven appreciation for how markets work and the various strategies used among investment managers to meet client needs, as well as understanding of the firm's investment discipline
  • Ability to develop innovative ideas for strategic business planning across the financial reserves business, as well as strong ownership in executing the plan
  • A deep familiarity with Japanese investment management regulations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skill, including fluency in English
