About the Opportunity

 

We seek a well-rounded and dynamic individual to join our GAS Finance team as a Specialist – Accounting Processes. Reporting to the Team Lead, Accounting Processes. This role will be responsible to ensure that a range of fixed asset accounting and general ledger activities are performed in a timely, accurate and effective manner for Group wide BHP Billiton companies in regions covering Australia.

 

Key relationships that are critical for success in this role:

 

  • Various Finance teams throughout the BHP Group

 

Key remit:

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Execute Fixed Asset and Project Accounting processes timely and effectively, ensuring operational discipline and strict adherence to internal accounting guidelines and controls
  • Request updates to Finance and other Master Data as required
  • Create Fixed Assets based on information provided
  • Finalise transfers and disposals as per submissions
  • Post impairments based on advice from Accounting team
  • Complete general ledger reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Assist with analysis and query resolution as appropriate
  • Assist with distribution of the program budget
  • Be the Key User for specific financial processes
  • Preparation of annual standalone and consolidated statutory accounts in compliance with IFRS and applicable policies as well as completion of audit processes, working closely with external and internal auditors.
  • Month end reporting deliverables and adherence to the group deadlines.
  • Preparation and submission of government surveys.
  • Compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements.
  • Preparation of external briefing papers, annual stewardship review, and other statutory reporting submissions to Group Reporting.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities
  • Contribute to and support global process standardization within Finance and continuous improvement
  • Support the open communication of ideas and information within the Finance team

 

About you 

 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work independently and be proactive in a complex environment with strict timelines.
  • Maintains high standards of attention to detail, accuracy and completeness. Shows concern for all aspects of the role.
  • Displays initiative in relation to issue resolution and follow up.
  • Ability to plan and organize tasks and work responsibilities to achieve relevant objectives.
  • Analytical mindset: challenges the norm to identify potential scope for simplification and improvement.
  • Degree qualified in accounting.
  • 3 years + accounting/finance experience.
  • Strong Microsoft office suite (especially Excel).
  • Sound financial and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders to complete the process.
  • SAP experience, preferred
