General Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a key risk manager and thought leader for ICRM Sanctions. Set, develop, and support the implementation of firm-wide Sanctions risk management policy as well as the strategic ICRM direction. Help translate Sanctions strategy and goals across countries and regional business lines in a succinct and clear manner; provide direction and guidance on the program. Act as a Sanctions Subject Matter Expert within the APAC region.
  • Provide oversight and guidance around the assessment of complex Sanctions issues, structure potential solutions, and drive effective resolution with other senior stakeholders. Provide advice to businesses with regards to new initiatives and acquisitions, new products, and client-related matters with respect to applicability of Sanctions policies, resolution of potential red flags, or other client/transaction-related compliance escalations.
  • Help monitor adherence to Citi's Global Sanctions Policy and other relevant Sanctions procedures. Work closely with Compliance Assurance and Internal Audit in the evaluation of results and proposed remedial actions, identifying opportunities to conduct more targeted comprehensive reviews as needed. Identify and escalate any material Sanctions risks and significant instances of non-adherence with Sanctions policies.
  • Interact with key regional and country stakeholders to raise awareness of Sanctions trends, emerging issues, remedial actions or Program enhancements. Assess the impact of Sanctions issues/violations (legal/regulatory, policy, reputational etc.) and dimension control process gaps to help management define disciplinary and corrective actions.
  • Analyze comparative data, prepare and present regional and global reports related to sanctions risk assessments, and monitoring of sanctions related issues and escalations with senior management and global partners.
  • Remain up to date on key Sanctions regulatory changes, key enforcement actions, industry trends and emerging risks, and communicate these developments to appropriate stakeholders so that remedial activities and additional controls can be deployed as needed.
  • Draft and edit sanctions-related reference materials; support the various electronic record-keeping logs for sanctions licenses, voluntary disclosures; subpoenas etc.; participate in sanctions training programs.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.


  • Education (required) - Bachelor's Degree
  • Education (preferred) - J.D., M.B.A., or graduate-level degree a plus
Knowledge and Skills
  • 7+Years of work experience in an international financial services firm, regulatory organization, or legal/consulting firm, or a combination thereof; at least 3 years' experience working in control function (compliance, audit, risk) or higher OFAC risk product (treasury/cash management, trade, correspondent banking) roles
  • Prior experience managing a team of diverse professionals;
  • Expertise of AML and  Sanctions regulations, risks and typologies;
  • Excellent written, verbal and analytical skills;
  • Must be a self-starter, flexible, innovative and adaptive;
  • Highly motivated, strong attention to detail, team oriented, organized;
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging
  • Ability to work collaboratively with regional and global partners in other functional units; ability to navigate a complex organization; to influence and lead people across cultures at a senior level
  • Experience in managing regulatory exams and relationships with examiners, auditors, etc.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements including local and US laws, international and industry standards.
