Director, Innovation Engagement
Visa Innovation is a client facing organization that sets Visa's public innovation agenda, supports clients and partners (e.g. financial institutions, merchants, tech companies) in designing and accelerating new solutions that will drive cashless payments growth, and promotes rapid prototyping and testing of new Visa capabilities. Visa runs innovation centers in various regional offices, and this role is based in Visa Innovation Center Singapore covering Asia Pacific markets.

We are looking for a Director with hands-on experience in human-centered design to lead the delivery of our Innovation Engagements, which aim to support clients and partners throughout their innovation journey with Visa. Engagement formats span from short sessions aimed at inspiring clients and identifying joint innovation opportunities, to multi-month projects structured to co-create new solutions and conceptualize new Visa capabilities. The Director will be responsible for the end-to-end engagement delivery leveraging human-centered design methodology, leading a team of analysts and cross-functional experts from Visa and client (e.g. designers, technologist, product owners, account leads) throughout the process from problem definition to consumer research to user experience design to workshop delivery.

This role will reports to the Senior Director of Innovation Engagement and be the development manager for two analysts in the team. The Director will be part of a high-performing team that brings a structured approach, storytelling abilities and facilitation skills to clients, partners and the Visa organization.   • Lead client Co-creation projects leveraging human-centered design methodology  
    • Define project scope and approach, ensuring alignment with client and Visa objectives
    • Design and conduct qualitative (e.g. ethnographic studies) and quantitative research to understand user needs and market landscape
    • Structure and facilitate workshops to design a holistic solution with a cross-functional team of designers, product managers, solution architects and marketers from both Visa and client side
    • Ensure top-quality client deliverables which include the value proposition, UI/UX,  product roadmap, go-to-market strategy, commercials, solution architecture and development plan
    • Mentor and ensure quality outputs from junior engagement team members   
  • Lead / support engagements focusing on the conceptualization and prototyping of new Visa capabilities in collaboration with clients and partners
    • Conduct research to understand end-user needs, ecosystem players' roles and requirements, revenue potential, regulatory requirements and competitive landscape
    • Lead a cross-functional team of SMEs from Visa and client / partner to design a holistic solution and define new enabling capabilities (e.g. tech, process, commercial) to be built by Visa vs. partners
    • Develop a compelling business case and development roadmap to get senior stakeholders buy-in and ensure successful hand-off to other Visa teams for the next phase of testing and development  
  • Lead Tours and Discovery sessions to showcase Visa thought-leadership and identify innovation opportunities with clients 
    • Deliver experiential tours in the Visa Innovation Center, helping clients to visualize what the future of commerce looks like and the value of partnering with Visa 
    • Build and present thought-provoking content on industry trends with support from Visa SMEs  
    • Understand client's needs, pain points and priorities and be able to turn them into an opportunity roadmap with Visa
  • Drive knowledge management, thought-leadership, training and other internal initiatives to continuously improve and grow the Innovation Engagement practice 
  • Serve as the development manager for two analysts in the team, providing ongoing mentorship and performance feedback
  • Evangelize the Innovation Center's engagement approach and priorities within the Visa organization, managing the relationship with Product and Account Leads from selected AP markets to continuously develop the pipeline of client engagement opportunities

  • 10+ years of work experience with at least 5 years of experience in innovation / design consulting or digital product development
  • Proven track record in designing and facilitating workshops with C-level participants and cross-functional SMEs based on human-centered design principles
  • Proven track record in translating ambiguous client requirements into meaningful project scope and structuring the right project approach to get to the desired outputs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of other Asian languages a plus
  • Payments industry, fintech, digital technology experience preferred
  • Digital product design and development experience preferred
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree; MBA or Master Degree highly desirable
