Job Background/Context:
The fx kdb team is looking to improve the architecture of their existing market and trade capture system. Allowing it to scale to capture more data sets required by the business. Then to expand to taking responsibility for developing applications/analytics on-top of that data.
To help fulfill that goal they are looking for individuals with good linux skills, a solid foundation of computer science knowledge and preferably some awareness of kdb+ databases. Initially the role will focus on supporting and helping to productionise the existing system Then focusing on adding functionality to improve stability and reliability long term.
The FX eTrading business is a technology driven business, which presents a unique opportunity where advances and innovations in the engineering are directly visible to the trading business. You will work closely with expert developers, quant analysts and traders as well as various operational teams.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop parts of the fxkdb target state architecture with the help of senior kdb developers
  • Aid migration of a number of legacy systems from an old code base to the modern standardised framework
  • Document business requirements and process and, where appropriate, carry out testing to ensure requirements are met
  • Continual improvement of the software development lifecycle and quality of the product
  • Adhoc and on-desk support of the production systems (a dedicated 24h support team handles 1st line)


Qualifications and Skills:
  • Good degree in computing science or a scientific subject from a top tier University
  • Linux / Bash scripting knowledge
  • Linux, disk devices, folder structure, processes, streams, pipes
  • Performance measurement and tuning
  • Experience of scrum based SDLC
  • Including tools such as Team City, Maven, BitBucket, GIT
Useful but not essential:
  • Database/Programming Knowledge, this could include:
    • Familiarity with programming best practices and
    • how to write good code in any language
    • Experience of standard SQL databases. Querying, Storage, Structure
    • Understanding of computing fundamentals - concurrency, algorithms, operating systems
    • Process and tools to produce well written low defect rate code

Currently we are only fulfilling the compulsory security/upgrade/CAP work we have responsibility for, while often delaying business requests for additional functionality. Adding a kdb developer will give us the capacity to ensure compulsory work is completed on-time and that business demands can be met in a timely manner.
