Job Description Job Purpose:

Head of Trade Services, Asia would be responsible for all aspects of the trade services business including P&L management, asset growth and risk & controls. The individual will work closely with the origination/sales teams as well as country product teams to grow the business and ensure focus on import initiatives. String alignment with the global product pillar to ensure that the regional strategy is in line with the global one. Digitization of the business (both front and back end) will be a key area of focus to ensure that analogue is minimised while improving client experience and reducing operating costs.

Trade is part of Trade and Treasury Solutions and is one of the market leaders in providing Trade products to our corporate and FI client base. An integral part of Trade's growth strategy is our Trade Services pillar, which covers fee based businesses such as letters of credit issuance and confirmation, guarantee and SBLC issuance and re-issuance etc as well asset business such as UPAS LCs, Export LC discounting and Trade Loans to FIs

The Head of the Trade Services pillar responsible for the overall P&L of the pillar as well as risk and controls and digitization focus.
Key Responsibilities:

  • P&L responsibility for the Trade Services Pillar with responsibility for growth and as well as expense management
  • Responsible for all the Country Product Programs in the region, and to ensure that these are maintained and updated in a timely manner in accordance with Global Product Program and local regulatory and legal requirements, working directly with key stakeholders (Risk, Legal, Compliance, Operations).
  • Defining product and pricing strategy towards meeting revenue and asset goals
  • Working closely with country product partners to implement initiatives for business growth
  • Review and approve GDRs for the pillar, and support country teams with complex deal review.
  • Working closely with Sales, Market Managers and Relationship Managers to drive origination momentum for new trade deals as well as to grow utilization of existing trade facilities and programs. Focus on key corridors/flows for Trade Services growth.
  • Implementing product initiatives, including technology platforms roll out and digitization (front end and back end)
  • Ongoing responsibility for risk and controls, including adherence with product programs, clean audit reviews and MCAs.
  • Strong partnership with the trade implementations and operations teams constantly seeking ways to improve trade efficiency, turnaround times and ensuring minimization of operational losses/errors.
  • Exceptional focus on controls and processes in relation to Trade to ensure compliance with local and global regulations and product polices. Ensuring any deviations or exceptions are appropriately approved, documented and regularly reviewed.
  • The role could be based out of Singapore or Hong Kong.


Person Specification Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years banking experience
  • Past experience in Trade, with Trade Services experience being preferred.
  • Educated to graduate level at a minimum
    • MBA or equivalent preferred
