Legal Counsel is a key member of the Asia Pacific Legal Department, playing a pivotal role in providing legal counsel to business stakeholders and senior managers in Singapore and the greater Asia Pacific region.

What you will do

Legal Counsel is a key member of the Asia Pacific Legal Department, playing a pivotal role in providing legal counsel to business stakeholders and senior managers in Singapore and the greater Asia Pacific region.

 

  • Negotiate, draft and/or review procurement agreements (including, but not limited to, real estate and information technology contracts) entered into with third party vendors by the various legal entities operating in the APAC Region
  • Draft and/or review inter-company agreements to be entered into by the various legal entities operating in the APAC Region (in their capacity as both service recipient and service provider)
  • Review and negotiate ad hoc or ancillary legal documentation such as non-disclosure agreements, service level agreements, and powers of attorney
  • Maintain up to date procurement and inter-company agreement templates and related process documents having regard for local law requirements, regulatory change, and global corporate standards
  • Work closely with procurement, compliance, business, and broader legal teams to develop processes and procedures for effective and efficient review of procurement and inter-company agreements
  • Instruct and liaise with external counsel in the APAC Region, as necessary
  • Review and analyse advice and opinions from external counsel, where required
  • Management of legal risks having regard for, amongst other things, regulatory change, good corporate governance and operating structures
  • Advise on legal and regulatory developments impacting our operating centres, and assisting other corporate functions with miscellaneous matters in relation to our operating centres
  • Work with other members of the APAC Legal Department and the broader corporate Legal Department in relation to ad hoc projects and client requests

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the APAC Legal Department supporting internal clients, including senior management, and liaising with vendors and external third parties when necessary
  • Provide legal support in connection with vendor appointments and retention and internal delegations and migrations
  • Provide legal support in connection with the day to day management of Northern Trust’s operating centres
  • Ensure agreements and ancillary documentation entered into with vendors and third parties accord with current regulatory requirements and Northern Trust’s risk parameters

 

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working in-house in a legal counsel role
  • Experience working in the legal department of a global financial institution
  • Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating procurement agreements
  • Pro-active and diligent team player with the ability to prioritise and work to set deadlines within a challenging environment
  • Strong commercial/pragmatic sense and understanding of business needs
  • Highly developed inter-personal and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
