  • As the key interface between the bank and our regulators you'll be building valuable expertise, experience and relationships
  • This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future of our business at an exciting time of change and development

What you'll do

You'll own and manage the relationship with the various Regulatory bodies Ulster Bank is accountable to on a daily basis and build trust and an effective working relationship with these external bodies. This will involve being in regular contact with the regulators, fielding questions and being a vital channel of communication, mediation, and feedback, between executive stakeholders in our business and our external regulators.

You'll also be leading, developing and motivating a team who are responsible for evaluating and acting on new proposals from regulators and government bodies. You'll be leading the team to assess and discuss these proposals and their possible impact on the bank, and you'll also have oversight of change delivery across the bank, when proposals are officially finalised.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Owning and managing the Fitness & Probity process for Ulster Bank and liaising with the CBI on Fitness & Probity
  • Identifying upstream risks and creating processes to ensure these are managed
  • Designing and implementing the necessary processes and reports to ensure effective control and risk management is in place
  • Identifying and mitigating regulatory risk issues across Ulster Bank in conjunction with Ulster Bank ExCo members
  • Managing the preparation for non-routine, ad-hoc regulatory requests and investigations and coaching ExCo members in preparation for meetings with external regulators.
  • Providing insight, direction and decision making to the businesses and Compliance and Risk colleagues on complex regulatory issues

Ultimately, the work you do will ensure that we're putting our customers at the heart of everything we do and help us reach our ambition of becoming the number 1 bank for customer service trust and advocacy.

The skills you'll need

You'll need leadership and senior managerial experience in financial services, and a deep understanding of regulatory risk in a banking environment. You'll have significant experience of the regulatory environment in which Ulster Bank operates, and experience of working with regulators at a senior level, such as the CBI, ECB or PRA.

You'll also need first class stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and, where necessary, give challenge at senior levels, both internally and externally.

We'll look to you to demonstrate:
  • The proven ability to lead, develop and motivate a high performing and multi-skilled team, including talent development and performance management
  • Excellent knowledge of risk management measures, controls and related regulatory issues in a banking context
  • Strong risk management skills, with an ability to analyse and interpret portfolio and financial data
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships both internally and externally
  • Experience in delivering communications to senior management and executive audiences by developing constructive relationships
