We're looking for an IFRS17 Data and Systems Lead.

The Aviva Ireland IFRS17 Data & Systems team have a key role to play in successful implementation of the new accounting standard. 

This role offers the opportunity to work on a large programme delivering fundamental changes to the way in which IFRS results are presented and gain knowledge of the implications for Aviva. Our team is responsible for the delivery and implementation of IFRS17 solutions in the Ireland Life business, working alongside the group to stay aligned with other markets where possible.

The role could be based in Dublin, York or Bristol. If UK based, occasional travel to Dublin may be required.



Duties & Responsibilities

The main purpose of the role will be to support the delivery & implementation of IFRS17 solutions to enable Ireland Life to be operationally ready for IFRS17. This will be achieved by ensuring build, readiness, delivery is success for Extended Proof of Concepts (EPoCs) & Dry Run.

You will quickly develop a good understanding of the IFRS17 standard.

The position will support the overall delivery of the IFRS17 change project ensuring that Aviva Ireland are aligned with the IFRS17 requirements and ready for implementation on 1st January 2022.



You'll be specifically required to:

  • Run the D&S Aviva Ireland workstream & provide regular updates to overall programme
  • Track & deliver the IFRS17 coordinated critical path build & test plan, covering all IFRS17 data, systems and process changes business readiness, incorporating end to end process, controls framework & working day timetable impacts
  • Produce EPoC results, delivered to Ireland Life SME’s for review and sign off
  • Lead the dry run activity
  • Ensure the lessons learned from EPoCs and Dry Runs are taken into the next cycle
  • Ensure the Aviva Ireland prophet models are being updated in line with IFRS 17 requirements


Skills & Experience required

We're looking for a qualified Actuary (or equivalent by experience) with understanding of financial reporting metrics for Life business. An awareness of the IFRS 17 standard would be advantageous but can be learned in role.

  • Strong technical actuarial skills to build accurate calculation processes within agreed controls framework
  • Ability to identify appropriate simplifications and working assumptions to meet interim requirements, and ability to systematically remove or agree these to reach audit quality
  • Ability to direct a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Very strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to work across sites and a willingness to work with colleagues from across the Group
  • Good communication skills – ability to communicate with partners up to CFO level to understand their requirements and to explain implications of decisions. Clarity of written communication is especially important in order to detail decisions and processes
  • Ability to meet short-term deadlines while progressing longer-term objectives
