Infrastructure Engineer (Desktop)

You'll be joining our Tech Services team. We deliver secure, effective and cost-efficient digital infrastructure services and to run live IT operations that support DWP's ambitious objectives.

As an engineer you'll be contributing to the delivery of high-quality and resilient IT services and support. We are embedding a Full Stack Service Model to integrate our IT operations and ensure our services meet existing and future network demand.

For us, the role of a Desktop Infrastructure Engineer is to engineer support and maintenance of infrastructure solutions and services. We provide and operate desktop services including office products, virtualised technologies and distribution toolsets, to improve system health and reliability.

You'll work in a team of infrastructure specialists and engineers making sure services are delivered and used as required. The infrastructure engineering team also work with and supports third parties to provide infrastructure services, and you'll work with other stakeholders and users to deliver 2nd line support.

You'll also be part of wider Infrastructure and Engineering communities with loads of opportunities to learn, develop and move into other areas of engineering or to become a real deep specialist.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Significant experience acting as 2nd line support for incidents, problems and changes to infrastructure solutions and services.
  • Experience of performing the administration and support of all infrastructure solutions and services, specifically: Windows 10, Citrix Environments, Office 365, and DNS/DHCP.
  • Experience of technical-change impacting and performing changes in a live service environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across multiple technology domains.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at different levels, across level 3 technical teams, business users, architecture and 3rd party suppliers and end users.
  • Strong stakeholder management skillsets, with ability to communicate effectively across all organisational levels.
  • Successful candidates must be willing to undertake SC clearance prior to taking up duty.
