DWP. Digital with Purpose. Test Engineer: up to £40,666 We want Test Engineers to join our Integration Technologies team. We're working at the cutting edge of frictionless data sharing in government.

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We deliver products, service, support and payments to people at key times in their lives.

We're using technology to transform the way these products and services are delivered to more than 20 million users. We're making our services more efficient, and reliable, and easier for everyone to access and for DWP to run.

We are looking for talented Test Engineers to join our Integration Technologies team. We're working at the cutting edge of frictionless data sharing in government. It's a high-profile and important project for us, and for our users.

Duties. Work. Projects.

In Integration Technologies we are implementing an Application Programming Interface (API) led integration strategy which will drive frictionless data sharing across DWP and other government departments. We enable service teams to take control of their own velocity, removing entry-barriers and dependencies.

As a Test Engineer you will work as part of our multi-disciplinary agile delivery team building products which enable integration and unleash the potential of Digital services to reduce overheads, cost and friction for citizen and agent-facing services.

You will be responsible for both the functional and non-functional testing of products developed within your squad. You'll define the appropriate depth and breadth of testing using a risk based approach, and ensure the stability, robustness and reliability of test suites.

You will ensure that products are thoroughly tested for function, performance, and security. You and your squad will build and deliver comprehensive, robust and reliable automated test frameworks and automation suites.

We value your skills and want to hear you voice. You'll help us be better and do better by suggesting process improvements and incubating best practice.

What essential skills and experience do you need to show us?

  • You have experience as a Test Engineer in an agile working environment, creating, modifying, and maintaining automated test suites in a modern programming language (preferably Java).
  • You have a good understanding of development tools and processes, including version control (Git), BDD, CLI (macOS X, Unix).
  • You can test interfaces between systems, with a complete understanding of the SDLC.
  • You can identify test process optimisation opportunities and contribute to process optimisation.

It's also great if you have…

  • Experience of testing software in a microservice architecture, use of continuous integration tools (GitlabCI, Jenkins), containerisation tools (Docker), collaboration tools (JIRA, Confluence, Slack, MS Teams).
  • Awareness of performance test methodologies and tools (JMeter, k6, Gatling).
  • An understanding of Web services (SOAP/REST) and automation experience with API and contract testing tools (Rest Assured, Postman, PACT), familiarity with Open API Specification/Swagger.
  • Experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure) and testing of infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with BDD tools such as Cucumber.

Don't be put off if you don't have some or all the above though. You'll have chance to develop skills and work with tech and tooling like this in your new role with DWP.

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join us in our newest and fanciest digital hub in Manchester.

We also have all the tech and tools we need to work flexibly. Many of us are currently working from home due to Covid-19.

In return for your skills we offer competitive salary up to £40,666 brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth over 27%, and a generous leave package starting at 25 days.
