The Role:

As a newly listed company, M&G plc needs a dynamic and well controlled finance function to ensure that external financial reporting meets the requirements of its stakeholders including the regulators. A key part of the finance function will be ensuring that we have the capability to continually enhance and develop our financial reporting and processes. This role, reporting to the Director of Group and M&G Reporting, will be responsible for leading aspects of these developments. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Accountant with experience of change to be involved in the development of future financial reporting and processes for a newly listed entity.

Key Work Level Accountabilities:

Integration Leader:

  • Critical role in translating strategy into implementation plans, influences and contributes to the strategy
  • Ensures successful implementation of defined strategy
  • Typically leaders of teams, or technical roles will lead the provision of advice across an area of expertise
  • Balances competing requirements to deliver a balanced set of results, resolving significant or priority conflicts
  • Addresses problems with broad reaching ramifications, with a need to manage different parts of complex systems and link to the broader picture

  • Drives incremental and transformational change in response to experience of market and customer needs, typically leads the delivery of major programmes of work
  • Allocates resources optimally to deliver on strategy, prioritising conflicting resource demands, agendas and activities


Key Responsibilities for this role:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G plc operational risk
  • Lead and shape the group financial reporting development activity with a commercial mindset to ensure the M&G Plc group reporting meets time, cost and quality business objectives
  • Act as the key business contact for the delivery of finance change projects and other business projects that impact financial reporting Identify opportunities to improve M&G plc financial reporting processes and lead or facilitate the implementation of the changes
  • Lead the development of the end to end annual financial cycle including reporting production timetable and production of the annual report and accounts
  • Lead the interaction with other finance teams ensuring their requirements are fully understood in respect of the developments and incorporated in the design and implementation
  • Liaise with the external auditors as required to explain our developments and ensure their requirements are met on a timely basis
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other teams in M&G plc finance function


Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience of leading teams and of providing leadership to technical specialists
  • Significant experience of insurance accounting, including requirements of UKGAAP and IFRS
  • Proven track record of delivering and driving transformational finance change management across regulated environments such as financial services, insurance and/or asset management
  • Experience of the end to end annual financial cycle including results production, preliminary statements, annual report and account and RNS announcements
  • Experience of financial leadership within complex, global financial services businesses, some specific life and pensions and/or asset management knowledge is essential
  • Detailed knowledge of financial reporting regulatory requirements and legislatory frameworks
  • Good knowledge of industry tends, best practice and developments good networks/links with external bodies and individual's in the same field
