Lead Service Reliabiity Engineer

We're making a series of significant changes across the Wealth Solutions business of Prudential UK as part of our contribution to make M&G Prudential the best loved and most successful savings and investments business. These changes are part of our strategy to modernise Prudential UK so that we can regain our reputation for innovation, reduce costs and become a truly digital business.

A Lead Service Reliability Engineer leads and plans development across large or complex technical initiatives, defining the strategic vision for the platform.
They provide leadership to build knowledge and skills within the Engineering Community.

Purpose statements:
Lead SR Engineers;
● Identify, test and champion the adoption of emerging platform technologies
● Ensure security, stability and capacity are embedded in the development and deployment of services
● Develop the SRE team's capability through coaching and mentoring
● Shapes career paths and recruit the right talent
● Identifies skills gaps and key dependencies across the Platform teams
Knowledge statements:
Essential - confident practitioner
● Strong understanding and application of the most appropriate modern standards and practices. Takes responsibility for coaching and guiding others
● Demonstrates a breadth of understanding of service support for Wealth Solutions
● Establishes standards and procedures across a service lifecycle including the development lifecycle and ensures that practitioners adhere to this.
● Leads the collaboration with Feature Teams to ensure that the necessary system services and integrations work effectively
● Has an in depth of knowledge in information security, able to design, quality review and quality assure solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered as mitigation against security threats as core part of the solutions and services.
● Experienced in using a variety of methods of prototyping. Shares best practice and can coach others. Looks at strategic service design end to end.

Complementary - working knowledge
● Ensures the correct implementation of standards and procedures, identifying capacity issues, stipulating the required changes and instigating these. Instigates remedial action
● Selects appropriate design standards, methods and tools and ensures they are applied effectively. Reviews the systems designs of others to ensure selection of appropriate technology.
● Collaborates with others when necessary to review specifications and uses these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programmes or scripts of medium to high complexity, using the right standards and tools
● Able to analyse current processes, identify and implement opportunities to optimise processes, and leads and develops a team of experts to deliver service improvements

Personal attribute/skills:
Communicate effectively in order to facilitate working meetings, using techniques such as active listening and negotiation. Tailor communication style to suit both face-to-face and virtual settings including web meetings and conference calls.
