Public Cloud Solutions Engineer – Systems Engineering

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom

This is a challenging position within the Engineering team of Infrastructure Services, a group within Moody's Information Technology. Reporting up to Moody's Chief Information Officer, Infrastructure Services leads all aspects of the company's global engineering, service management, network, branch office delivery, end user services and delivery of hosting, environment management and production support services. We support over 200 bespoke applications operating from 5 key private cloud data centers along with public cloud facilities. Infrastructure has invested significantly in ITIL-based service management, best practice information security, software and hardware to enable Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service cloud-based architectures.

The candidate must be very motivated and willing to take on challenges, learn new concepts and be willing to multi-task to succeed. This role will report into the global lead for Public Cloud Services within the Infrastructure Services organization working with a team of engineers and consultants. There is an exciting multi-year, IT Transformation Program, focused on re-engineering core ratings publishing technology, business process and workflow optimization, updated content management systems, document management systems and analytic platform frameworks. Moody's Analytics is experiencing infrastructure growth rates of around 35% annually, and there is a big move towards consuming public Cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure. This role will work in conjunction with engineering tower leads within IT (Infrastructure Services, IT Risk, and Development) and the development organizations within the lines of businesses to engineer solutions on the public Cloud, as well as manage / oversee the daily operations on the Cloud. Below are some core responsibilities of this role.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and clearly document solutions for the AWS and Azure public clouds while maintaining the security considerations
  • Help lead adoption strategy for Cloud services on AWS, Azure, and hybrid offerings in the future
  • Manage relationships with Cloud vendor account and delivery teams
  • Assist with managing and overseeing outsourced service providers for daily operations and to ensure availability of the VPCs on the public cloud
  • Enable automated solutions for Cloud including but not limited to provisioning, resource management, bursting ability, etc
  • Guide DevOps teams with assessing Cloud readiness of applications and remediation where required
  • Facilitate integration of Cloud services with on premise private cloud
  • Enable portability / compatibility between public and private clouds
  • Publish and maintain a multiyear roadmap for adoption of public/hybrid cloud
  • Contribute to the multi-year Infrastructure direction and strategy around technologies, tools, capabilities and operating models
  • Lead detailed engineering design and related activities that cross multiple Infrastructure Engineering disciplines
  • Engineer a three and twelve month infrastructure forecast of demand for each business unit
  • Understand the portfolio of Infrastructure Services supporting the DevOps teams
  • Contribute to the multi-year Infrastructure direction and strategy around technologies, tools, capabilities and operating models
  • Collaborate with other Solutions designers to develop a standardized services catalog in ServiceNow (ITSM platform) to frontend the automated solutions
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of MIT Infrastructure Services Catalog and the Infrastructure Strategy as well as infrastructure capabilities and capacity
  • Work closely and collaboratively with all stakeholders to devise solutions to satisfy agreed-to business objectives
  • Responsible for detailed, high-quality documentation and/or presentations that meet the needs of the various stakeholders

Moody's Information Technology

Education Qualification and Certification Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Equivalent area of study.
  • Minimum 3 years in test plan development and execution.
  • Minimum 2 years in test automation and CI/CD tooling.
  • Industry Certification in AWS or Azure is a plus.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in IT industry in relevant area, with at least 2 years' experience with Public Clouds, preferably Azure and AWS.

Technical Skills
  • Experience working in Agile SDLC with sprints and daily stand-ups.
  • Experience using JIRA or similar project tracking software.
  • Ability to code in one or more of the following: C#, Node.js, Python, Go, Java, batch, or bash.
  • Good working knowledge of AWS and Azure Public Cloud services.
  • Experienced with any of the CI Tools (Jenkins, Test Kitchen, CircleCI, ServerSpec, etc.)
  • Experience with modern source control software such as Git or SVN.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and draw meaningful conclusions from independent research.
