Your opportunity
NSE Cloud is a public cloud hosting platform utilised by our service lines across North and South Europe servicing requests from 14 different geographies embedding compliance and security best practices while enabling our practitioners to innovate on a globally secure platform
. To support this we are recruiting for an AWS Engineering Lead to manage and be the technical point of escalation for AWS related deliverables and operations.
You will be required to draw on your previous experience of software development and DevOps cultures to lead a team that will build and run solutions built using infrastructure as code. You should be dynamic and willing to reach out to colleagues across ITS as we execute our cloud first strategy and agile transformation programme, with a view to agreeing collaboration goals for the benefit of the wider community

Your role
An AWS Engineering Lead is someone that:
  • Leads technical team that covers one or more of the following areas: build and release pipelines; configuration management; change and release management; environment and lifecycle management.
  • Will organise the team to provide managed services for patching, vulnerability management, backup and monitoring and be able to propose innovative ideas around automation and measure success against baseline criteria.
  • Will work with Cloud architects to mature and audit compliance policies taking in to account security frameworks and best practices. Will look for opportunities to embed these practices in to the deployment pipelines.
  • Applies DevOps and Agile thinking and practices identifying development and operational processes that can be converged to increase speed, efficiency and quality to our customers.
  • Will be able to act as product owner for the AWS Cloud Engineering team organising sprints while balancing operational and customer deliverable activities.
  • Will be technical point of contact for platform hosting issues on production systems
  • Managing diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution

Your professional experience

  • Will have previous AWS team leadership experience involving highly available Tier 1 systems and deep understanding of cloud native technologies delivering against RPO and RTO requirements.
  • A thorough grasp of agile and lean delivery concepts and proven experience of applying these concepts to teams acting in a product owner capacity.
  • Have experience of the DevOps tool chain and expertise in using infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Have good knowledge of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS services and proven experience in deploying and securing solutions.
  • Have experience in configuration management tooling such as Puppet.
  • Understand an Enterprise environment and be able to set team direction in line with wider departmental objectives and firm strategy.
