We are currently assisting one of Canada’s largest and most diversified institutional investment fund managers, with an investment portfolio of approximately CAN$119 billion (£70 billion). Our client manages an investment portfolio for 31 clients consisting of public sector pensions, endowments and government funds. They are a sophisticated investor and are committed to the highest standards of intellectual rigour, discipline, integrity, performance and governance.
The portfolio is diversified by asset class, with investments in listed equities, fixed income and illiquid investments, which includes real estate, infrastructure and renewable resources, private equity and debt. They employ over 500 professionals across their Canadian and European offices.
Our client’s infrastructure group acquires and manages long-term equity positions in OECD infrastructure assets that have long term stable returns, minimal substitution risk and are either regulated or have highly contracted revenues with potential for long-term capital appreciation. These include utilities, power (generation, transmission, distribution), pipelines, communications infrastructure and toll roads, airports and ports. The group primarily makes direct investments in infrastructure but will also selectively consider externally managed funds.
The current infrastructure portfolio of around CAN$11bn (£6.4bn) includes large investments in Europe, as well as significant transportation and energy businesses across North and South America, and Australasia. The group is committed to significant growth in its infrastructure over the next several years.
Our client opened its London office in 2014 which has grown many folds since then. The infrastructure team in the London office is focused on investments in Europe and select geographies in Asia.
The Role
Working closely with the head of the London-based infrastructure team, the new Analyst will be actively involved across the full life cycle of investments, working with their team colleagues, advisors and other consortium members to support the origination, transaction and asset management of deals.
The successful candidate will work as a key member of transaction teams taking an active role in the research, analysis and evaluation of investment opportunities and with particular responsibility for the creation and/or review of detailed financial models and for performing valuations and detailed due diligence, including day-to- day liaison with third-party advisors.
Our client is an active investor and you will work alongside the seniors, playing a supporting role across the full range of asset management activities including business planning, budgeting, review of board papers, capex plans, value-enhancements & operational efficiencies, portfolio valuations and re-financings.
The successful candidate will also help to develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of target sectors and assist in marketing and or interacting to advisors and sponsors to ensure a pipeline of future transactions.
