BlackRock Real Estate, part of the BlackRock’s Alternatives platform, manages over $22 billion in private and public real estate equity and debt in the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific. BlackRock’s Real Estate team manages investments on behalf of public and private pension plans, insurance companies, foundations, endowments and private investors. The platform manages a broad array of investment strategies, including core, value-add and opportunistic, through separate accounts and commingled funds. Our extensive experience encompasses many major geographies as well as all major property types including office, industrial, retail and operational assets.

Job Purpose:

The Real Estate Portfolio Operations team provides financial / operational support and oversight for the EMEA Real Estate team. It provides a link between the Asset Management, Portfolio Management and the Fund Oversight teams.

We now require an Associate to work with us across the ever expanding European platform. The primary focus will be on providing support from a finance and administration perspective with a focus on operational risk management and controls.

The role will require project management skills to work with various teams internally, as well as external service providers across Europe to ensure the investment process is followed, documented and working efficiently. This is an opportunity to work across UK and continental European funds on core, value-add and opportunistic investment strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of the investment process, ensuring that those processes are fully and accurately documented and are being evidenced as followed by the responsible parties.
  • Document management; pre and post transaction, debt financing, hedging and Fund level
  • Completing regulatory checks and filings such as AML and KYC
  • Working with the Transaction Support and Fund Oversight teams as well as outsourced Fund Administrators to ensure the timely and accurate handover and reporting of financial data.
  • Running the monthly dealing process for our open ended UK funds, working with third parties on secondary dealing transactions.
  • Involvement in the smooth operation of valuation and audit processes across various funds
  • Ensuring internal systems are updated and reconciled.
  • Working with internal teams and external service providers to ensure our Property Management system (Yardi) is used to its full potential.
  • Review and signoff of financial data that forms part of the investor reporting process
  • Identifying potential risks and inefficiencies in our process and mitigating those risks
  • Maintaining an operations issues log and ensuring timely resolution
  • Ad hoc projects reviewing platform risk management and efficiency

    Knowledge and Experience:

  • Part qualified (foundation / intermediate stage) ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent accounting qualifications
  • Project management skills
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively with different teams and different levels of an organisation.
  • Experience of real estate investments and their inherent operational risks, either with a professional services firm or within an investment company, would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of real estate structures and operating models would also be an advantage
